What tools do you use to change the icons?I find that a really good photograph may not make a good desk wallpaper for me because I use on a temp basis as I think most do, my desk as a folder & workplace, but busy wallpapers can hide elements / icons you may using but also being who I am like a variety of desktop backgrounds I change often so on the whole I prefer plain & on this display they have to be HQ also or it really irritates me

I find the same thing, too. Even though I tend to pin most of my apps on the taskbar, I also like a cleaner wallpaper with at least open areas to position the icons in.
