Does the MalwareTips community platform use XenForo?

XenForo allows the thread starter to hide their thread from any member and restrict it to registered users only, among other options. Is this functionality enabled on MalwareTips, or will the BB code work if I attempt it?

Hi, I think that feature is not enabled, and not controlled by the user when creating a new thread, but it's true that in this forum there are some sections that can't be accessed by anonymous users unless They are registered -> logged.

The "Hide" feature works similarly to other options when you post. Clicking on it expands the menu; you can choose the "UsersID" option and enter the users' IDs. These users will only see the word "hidden" and not the post details.

Could you explain why you would want to restrict access to registered members only?
It looks like you guys are mixing up the post-option and administrative actions. Can you include a block option for the post-bar, such as spoiler or code options? The thread starter can block trolls from commenting in the thread.

It would be worth considering enabling it for users. Don't you think?
Currently this guy ......

........is the only pariah in this forum and I feel that is OK. We should not restrict un registered users from gaining useful information.

To understand the objective here, are you suggesting locking information behind a paywall (of sorts)? How does this benefit anyone viewing without an account, or are not currently logged in?

If you suspect a troll account, you can use the Report button with details so their accounts can be reviewed.

You all are going in the wrong direction. I'm hoping you understand it clearly now.

I'm looking for a way to restrict certain users from commenting in my thread while still allowing them to see it.

The post-bar can have a "Block" option, similar to spoilers, smilies, media, and other options. At a minimum, the block option should include the "UsersID" choice.

The initial post must always be "editable" to allow the thread starter to block users from commenting and prevent thread derailment, trolling, spamming, etc.

[I believe XenForo has a block or similar option. Another forum that uses XenForo has a "Hide" option with different choices, including "UsersID" (for example, rashmi.107361 is my MalwareTips UserID). The thread starter can use UsersID to hide content from specific users. When these users access the thread, they can only see the word "hidden content" and cannot view the comments or content.]

Hum. 🤔.. so somehow You want to be "the Mod" of Your own threads, and "censor" thread content from some users chosen by "You" (thread author, in general) arbitrarily... are You sure this is a good idea? I don't think so... this is not a social media. :)

I am here in the forum since almost 10 years and I can promise you, most forums communities would never accepting sort of censorship like that...
Just imagine in case you would be allowed to control your threads in your suggested way, sooner or later even more forum users would just ignore your threads ;)

As I understand, and as others have pointed out, it is to prevent members you don't like(?) from replying to your thread.

Is there any reason you would not certain members to reply?

Ignoring members hides their comments, so that you cannot view them by default. https://malwaretips.com/account/ignored

Edit: Fixed wording.

I comprehend the complexity of my suggestion. As for reporting, the staff's perception of the reported content influences their response. Anyway, I appreciate your time and input. You may close this thread.

It's not that it's a complex request, but more of an attempt to understand why.

How do you determine a troll account vs a difference of opinion?
I acknowledge and value diverse viewpoints. Some individuals become trolls in certain situations. Trolling includes repeating the same thing in every thread, disrespecting members with different opinions, and name-calling those who prefer something. This irrelevant content disrupts the conversation, causing users to lose interest or struggle to follow the meaningful discussions.

@harlan4096 responded to one of my posts using words: the mod, censor, you, arbitrarily, and this is not social media. Well, the lack of moderation in certain discussions creates a sense of arbitrary censorship, similar to what often occurs on social media.

The following thread:
Poll - Do you care about Comodo in 2024?
This bizarre thread, which I didn't expect from @Trident, stems from unrelated discussions in Comodo threads. "Is XXX worthy of being a member of the MT?" could be the next point of discussion.
