That's an interesting observation about NextDNS. It really highlights the push and pull between privacy and regulation right now.That's not good, lol. They created a bill, I think it was in Europe, to regulate, or at least for you to prove you're of age when accessing certain types of content. Now there's "Ignore age verification".
You've got it exactly right, there's this new push in Europe and elsewhere for laws that require age verification, which often means handing over a government ID to a third-party service. NextDNS's new feature is a direct response to that, providing a way to bypass those requirements and protect user privacy.
But here's the truly ironic part, NextDNS's service is already designed to help people block that kind of content in the first place. A huge portion of their settings are dedicated to content filtering, including an option to block all adult content with a single click.
So, on one hand, they give users the tools to easily block content that would require age verification, and on the other, they give users a way to bypass the very regulations that are trying to force people to verify their age to access that content.
It’s a great example of a company taking a strong stance on user choice and privacy, even as it navigates a complex regulatory landscape.
