This update feels a bit weird compared to the previous one.
You will get a license expiration message on the first launch. If you try to update the database, you will still get a license warning. Most notably, a message was displayed after the scan prompting you to extend web protection.
I feel a little strange.

I'm not seeing any scam like behavior. Everything is fine and now it looks the same as their main product. Haven't seen any license related popup. The only popup comes after finishing the scan and the only thing I can complain about that is they wrote the name (Windows Defender) in parenthesis which shouldn't be there, that is wrong. But the rest of the message is fine because I don't think anyone needs to run a separate scanner unless they suspect something got passed their current AV.

Scam!? That's a pretty harsh word on a Emsisoft product, but all must of course be allowed their opinions. I just strongly doubt it's a general consensus.

@SeriousHoax , I agree. The defender note could/should be edited out. Hopefully in any upcoming update.

I haven't gone through the update route to this new version, its a new install (free!) on a recent fresh install of Win10, but I still come up against the license issues mentioned previously. I can still scan but not update the definitions.

They are awaiting developer feedback on this issue.

It's unclear what the database updates are, but the scan itself is fine.
If a doctor who had been silent until now suddenly starts explaining the price or recommending a medicine, anyone will find it strange. That is my feeling now.

Got the update from the previous version and it only asked for the module be restarted. No notable update issue and also no license issue. 2020.3.1.10032. Will be interesting to hear from others.
I've just restarted my PC and discovered the bad news, so much for it being fixed. I'll inform Emsisoft.

Emsisoft having a really bad time. Their main product has a bug of high CPU usage, not registering itself in windows security and as a result windows defender is getting enabled. It's almost two weeks but they've failed to reproduce the bugs on their end so the problem still remains.

Ver.2020.3.1.10025 is the failed version. Currently, you can download the modified version 2020.3.1.10032.
I will try it later.

It seems to be an ongoing problem.

Yes, I reported this a week prior to this post on the forum but they're yet to reproduce this on their end. They need to do something asap.
