Thanks for sharing the update details, TuxTalk! It's great to see Norton addressing these persistent issues, especially the backup set deletion problems that have been plaguing users for a while based on those linked threads. The fix for the "Network compromised" false positives and the casting issue with firewalls should be a relief for many.

If anyone here on MalwareTips has already updated to 25.9.10453, feel free to chime in with your experiences—did it resolve any specific bugs for you, or are there any new quirks popping up?

For those interested, you can check the official Norton release notes directly via the link provided. Stay safe out there!

Got it ;) Thank you :) We'll see how long I stick with this one (360 Standard) LOL :) By the way, the VPN seems really nice, very nice settings and speed.

What do you consider the clearest weakness in Avast's approach? I'm curious from a technical standpoint, purely informational.

I feel like Avast is regressing a bit in terms of detection; I find it less responsive than Norton's engine.
That's just my impression, though; I'll test it again soon.
And I'm a bit tired of seeing copies of Avast everywhere :D (first AVG, now Norton...)

F-Secure is now running that in tandem with their Avira engine 😂 😂

There are no weaknesses in Avast’s approach, amongst all the AVs it is actually one of the 3-4 approaches that are executed properly, in a sensible way.
...but Avast had one weakness here, always gave me problems, ie, system ran poorly with it, why dunno, could not figure out why, which is perhaps a 2d weakness...

I tried Norton last year, did not like its UI and too often up-sells... (fwiw)(I tried to like it, but gave up trying)
I'm not trying to convince you, as I'm only into day...well hour 4 of my 7 day trial before my CC gets billed, but the only upsell I see is hidden behind the Store tab/New on the left hand side...but, the night is young 😂

Quite a few people have reported Avast degrading performance, game frame rate and so on. I’ve noted the Avast higher performance impact on other threads, so this post was mainly protection-wise.

Avast is also bundled with the GMER anti rootkit driver which not once or twice has caused BSODs on a wide scale.
The Avast architecture is kernel rich and even turning of all components, behavioural blocking continues to collect data.

However, these downsides can be accepted (perhaps) for the protection it offers.
