Nvidia introduced the GeForce RTX 30 series of graphics cards at the start of September, starting things off with the high end of the spectrum- the RTX 3090, 3080, and 3070. If you've been waiting for something a bit more affordable, Nvidia today introduced the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, the cheapest member of the RTX 30 family so far.

In terms of performance, the RTX 3060 Ti is faster than the RTX 2080 Super across the board, according to Nvidia. Comparing rasterization, rendering, and ray tracing performance, in a handful of games and programs, the newer card always comes out ahead, and the most notable improvements being in productivity tasks like Blender and V-Ray. It's also up to 80% faster than the RTX 2060 Super, according to the company's measurements.

It's going to the be the same as with the other rtx 3 series cards: here's the marketing hype, people are psyched and ready to drop money the second it's available....for maybe five minutes at the retailers willing to offer it at msrp. Then it will join the other rtx 3 series cards at Amazon, priced at exactly double the msrp. Nasty price gougers there.

I was at one of the more ethical retailers very recently, Micro Center. It's huge but walking thru the video card section was like visiting a store that had just gone out of business. The locked cabinets were mostly empty except for some 1030s, GT 710 and RTX 1650. Oh yeah and two Titan RTX priced at 999.99 USD. I could almost hear the wind howling.

On the other side, the AMD side, literally nothing. lol!

It is faster than the RTX 2080 Super. But, I think the focus is shifting from which is the fastest general GPU to which is the fastest raytracing GPU and if you want to play raytracing games above 1080p at 60 fps is it still great?
