Hello!

Opera developer has been updated to version 134.0.5945.0.

This update introduces Paste Protect, a dedicated defense against malicious takeover of your clipboard, which includes code injection attacks such as ClickFix. This is the first release to include it, and it’s enabled by default so give it a try and let us know what you think.

  • Polished Vertical Tabs: fixed the collapse icon jumping, the panel turning black/white after opening DevTools, and tab island positioning when switching layouts. Also added drag and drop to create tab islands, with animations and a “new tab in tab island” button.
  • Fixed the “Make Opera Yours” widget appearing for existing users and after onboarding was completed
  • Fixed crashes on Windows in animated UI transitions and improved general responsiveness

Hello!

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Developer focused on stability and polish.

We fixed an issue where sessions could be wiped after a crash loop instead of simply skipping page loads, along with several crashes affecting the tab media list, tab collection moves, and Vertical Tabs-related crashes.

Split screen also got a round of improvements: links opened from split screen no longer create accidental single-tab islands, and split-screen tabs can once again be dragged into tab islands as expected.

Also, the React Settings now includes the missing JavaScript icons, points to the correct deep-link targets, and has a cleaner, more consistent sidebar width.

Hello!

We’ve rolled out a new Opera developer release with a round of stability and polish fixes.

We fixed several crashes: including one in tab hover cards, one after approving permissions for the ChatGPT extension, a macOS split screen crash, and crashes when dragging tabs between pinned and unpinned sections or switching workspaces with a split screen tab active.

We also added an option to switch the New Tab button position from the context menu, and increased the drag-to-move space.

“Save as PDF” now captures pages correctly again, the VPN Autoconnect popup properly appears above other applications, and Acceptable Ads is no longer turned on when the Ad Blocker is disabled.

On top of that, the new React-based settings got a lot of fixes, including the empty opera://settings/syncSetup page and broken section navigation after searching.

We’re still ironing out some issues with syncing in the new settings, so please let us know if you run into anything!

Hello!

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Developer release (version: 138.0.6038.0) with a Chromium bump (updated to 153.0.8010.5), and a large batch of fixes across the new React settings, Vertical Tabs, and overall stability.

Much of this release focused on improving the new React settings. Deep links now open the correct pages, sync works again with open tab details restored, and search updates the URL while keeping phrases intact. We also fixed several smaller issues, including missing labels and icons, hidden Early Bird features, blocker exceptions, VPN Pro status styling, spell check languages, and layout inconsistencies.

Vertical Tabs now save their collapsed/expanded state per window, with new windows inheriting the last open window’s state. We also fixed tab search with hidden sidebars, dropdown styling on Windows, and tab clicks after switching layouts.

We also added popup warnings about sound use in Easy Setup and Settings.

Known issues:

  • Speed Dial folders cannot currently be created. We’re investigating the issue.

We’ve rolled out a new Opera Developer release, version 139, with a Chromium bump, and a wide batch of fixes across vertical tabs, sidebar, settings, and stability.

New in the ad blocker:

  • We’ve added a new way to take back your page from distracting content. Right-click any ad, banner, or annoying box and choose Block this element, it disappears instantly. Need to tidy more at once? Pick Block multiple elements to highlight and remove items one by one with a crosshair, with a small slider to catch repeated blocks like ad rows or card lists. Everything is instantly reversible with an Undo button, and your blocked items are remembered per site, so the clutter stays gone on your next visit. Wipe it up! is built right into the Opera ad blocker: no setup required.

But in our regular release:

  • Updated Chromium to 154.0.8037.17
  • Enabled #popup-protection : only one pop-up can be displayed at a time now, and extended the mechanism to cover all pop-ups
  • Added drag and drop for the auto-hiding vertical tabs panel, both within the same window and across windows
  • Fixed WebCodecs H.264 encoder errors on web.whatsapp.com and Paramount+ video playback failure (Error 100)
  • Fixed websites not reacting to touch on touch screens
  • Fixed sidebar remaining partially visible (a 4px strip) after auto-hide
  • Fixed missing options that prevented Opera account synchronization
  • Fixed a number of crashes across autofill, AI panel, DevTools, tab collection, and the Windows installer
  • A round of React Settings polish: added favicons, fixed missing icons, search results for “Browser Connector”, and the “Automatically translate these languages” section

Known issues:

  • Clicking the “+” button in the tab tooltip does not let you select additional emoji, we’re working on a fix.
