New Update Osprey Browser Protection discussion and updates

Great! While Norton Safe Web does hit you with false positives, it's also very sensitive and hit malicious websites to nearly 100%. Glad you added possibility to permanently whitelist!
Problem is when you get too many FPs, you stop taking it seriously. It's the same with AVs with high FPs, you just stop trusting it.

This is absolutely true. I'd rather have the least amount of false positives as possible than the most "aggressive" protection
Majority will agree and those that don't can enable other providers
btw I absolutely like the default providers now for low false positives (family ) I won't need to disable any and for myself I can select more aggressive options

Great extension and a pleasure to use it. Many thanks to the author for his work! But I have a suggestion: why not keep only the most reliable engines? There are just too many of them. Maybe limit it to those with the highest detection results?

False positives over anything else. So far, the default settings are great. If a provider consistently has false positives, they get turned off. Norton was recently disabled by default after months of complaints. It's a community thing. I don't collect any analytics data.

New to osprey here, is there any way to see wich ''engines/ filters'' are blocking the page other than it shows smartscreen + 3 others here, how to see them all, if not possible is there update coming?

Also might be too much of work but any idea of making this usable on firefox mobile version, so you could use it on mobile too. There aint many ( if any at all ) browser protection extensions that work on firefox mobile

edit: continue anyway will show up them

It already works in mobile Firefox. It is enough to open the website with addons and select the desktop viewing mode, then you can install (perhaps this only works in Firefox Beta, I did not check it).

Changes in 1.3.3

  • Disabled OpenDNS Security DNS by default due to response times
  • Changed OpenDNS's false positive support email
  • Added missing SmartScreen threat categories
  • Reduced false positives with alphaMountain
  • Fixed issues with warning page
  • Fixed issues with popup page
  • Fixed issues with blocked cache
  • Cleaned up code
This update has been submitted to all extension stores.

The untrusted in alpha mountain obviously had false positives but worked really well to identify sites that can be risky
I hope one day there will be a way for a user to select what categories he likes to block in each provider
But I guess that will make the extension size larger due to the added gui options so it partially goes against making it as light as possible in terms of storage but I think it will be nice to have

Untrusted category is still there. :) It's a combination of multiple different category identifiers. I removed one of them.

First post mentions you had discord server for the osprey @Foulest. Was it inactive or is it still alive, im just curious because i like to join security related discords and its one way to keep up to date of software along with MalwareTips.

It's both. Frequency was high, and sometimes tickets would remain unopened for weeks. It's still incredible at blocking malware and partnered with the project, but disabled in the default settings in the next version.
Thank you for answering that, that is good to know. Because I have been using Control D DNS instead of AdGuard DNS as a custom / private DNS because it has better malicious website blocking. Now I wonder should I switch back to the AdGuard DNS?
