Hi ,

I have kids in my home and want to restrict them to visit bad ( specially porn sites ;) ).

I want a free solution for that. Can someone please suggest such software?

I tried k9 web protection. But sadly after installing I was unable to connect to any site and also the admin password not working. So I had to uninstall it ( strangely while uninstalling the admin password worked :S ).

Right now I have enabled Avast Free web protection with blocking any site having very common keyword in URL like girls, sex, babe, video.

P.S. -- I created standard user account for them in Win7

Try Adguard Premium, it has a parental control feature.

First parents (anupam) needed to be controlled, ;);), just kidding, trend micro parental control done a decent job for me..

What OS?

Windows 8.1 has the included Child account options, aka Family Safety included.

Remember you or another will have to be the Parent account.

K9 web filter and norton connect safe worked for me, and yes they are free, since you already try K9 web filter, probably you might want to try norton connect safe https://dns.norton.com/homeuser.html and if you concern about which content filtering policies suit your need then you need to read this first https://dns.norton.com/faq.html

Norton DNS is awesome :D
Just changed the DNS of that computer.. good thing is it's using STANDARD user account, so the kids won't be able to even change the DNS ;)

So have you looked at Family Safety? Also I do think Win 7 has Parent Controls built-in too, but may be manual activation.
