As for these, or any other VPNs, they have to be independently audited semi-regularly for me to believe anything they're saying regarding their policies. I know or very few that are. There are some, such as ExpressVPN have only had their extension audited. Even in that case it did not to well. There are others, like Mullvad, Hide.me, and IVPN, that have been completely audited (software and service) and have done very well. I suggest you chose one of them.

If that's the case you might want to rethink your choice of hide.me. It hasn't been audited since 2015 and they provide practically no information about the scope of that audit beyond a broad declaration that 'we comply with all our no-logging claims'.
Strangely they don't make the audit report available, so there's no way for potential customers to see that this audit even took place, let alone what its findings were (which are arguably no longer relevant in 2021, but the principle still stands).

Sadly he doesn't provide any new information. Just regurgitates the same material as presented on the the company's website.
Ultimately It's a 6-year old audit; their code and infrastructure have likely changed considerably since it was carried out. Fingers crossed they'll have another performed—alongside a publicly available report detailing its findings—sometime in the future.

It's true that auditing was done 6 years ago. That being said, hide.me does release yearly transparency reports. That's more than can be said for the majority of other VPNs. Also, I just heard from support and they are planning to do another audit with DefenseCode "soon, most likely early next year." All of this tells me hide.me has nothing to (pun intended) hide. But, let's continue this conversation in the hide.me thread.
