There is an unused M.2 SSD slot. I have been planning to add M.2 SSD and upgrade RAM to 16GB really soon.

Get the Crucial MX300 and Crucial RAM stick.
I suppose you can max out the RAM to 32 GB acc. to 6700hq spec sheet.
Even mine does support 32GB 2133MHz.

Thanks for the suggestion I might have a look at it. I think it has something to do with Dell because according to Dell Support Assist I can only upgrade RAM up to 16GB.

Uninstall that piece of junk Dell support Assist. Simply disallows CPU from going to idle state and complete trashware. Don't believe that SW. Dell themselves use ePSA diagnostics test to verify any hardware defects. Simply remove the bloat.
