Everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S22

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series could land soon, with a January or February 2022 launch date looking highly likely, and the leaks and rumors have been coming in thick and fast for all three devices in the line.
These are to be the successors to 2021's Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra, but have also got the big boots of the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 to fill, with 2021's late-year flagship actually canceled, much to the chagrin of Samsung fans.

The Galaxy S22 is therefore the next big flagship from Samsung, and since the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 was cancelled, it will be the first big traditional phone from the company to come out in a year.

Samsung Galaxy S22: what you need to know

Samsung Galaxy S22 release date: Rumors point to a February release for the Samsung Galaxy S22, with an announcement possibly on February 9. It'd then go on sale on February 25. That's not been confirmed, but we'd be surprised if it didn't land in early 2022.

Samsung Galaxy S22 price: Pricing is unknown, but for reference the Samsung Galaxy S21 started at $799 / £769 / AU$1,249, and we may be looking at a similar price again.

"The most noteworthy S series device" yet

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S22 next month, it has confirmed, and it looks like it will replace the Galaxy Note.

In its announcement, Samsung stopped short of naming the S22. But Dr. TM Roh, president and head of MX Business at Samsung did confirm a new Galaxy S series phone will launch at an Unpacked event in February. The S21 launched last January, so it follows that this new phone will be the S22. He also dropped rather a large hint that the S22 Ultra will replace the Galaxy Note phone that Samsung retired last year.

The standard Galaxy S22 is expected to be the baby of the line-up. It's claimed that will have a 6.1-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. The maximum brightness is said to be 1500 nits, while the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. ...
The Galaxy S22 Plus is the step-up model. At 6.6 inches, the screen is a little bigger, with a 2340 x1080-pixel resolution and peak brightness of 1750 nits. The battery is also a bit bigger, at 4,500mAh. It measures 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.64mm and weighs 195g – otherwise, the specs are the same as the standard S22. It's claimed pricing will start at €1049 (around £780, $1049, AU$1425). ...
The S22 Ultra is bigger still. Its AMOLED screen measures 6.8 inches, with a resolution of 3080 x 1440 pixels. Its variable refresh rate still tops out at 120Hz, but can go down all the way to 1Hz. Like the S22 Plus, its maximum brightness is 1750 nits. ...

The Galaxy S22 range will launch on 9th February and go on sale from 25th February. It's expected to be joined by the Galaxy Tab S8 range of tablets, headed up by the huge 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: performance

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first phone to launch in the U.S. with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. We are still in the testing process for our review, so you’ll need to return for the final ruling on this one. With that said, there is roughly the same chance of it beating the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13 Pro Max as me being struck by lightning in my basement as I type this…nope, I’m safe and so is the A15 Bionic’s dominance. Despite offering double the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s RAM (12GB vs. 6GB), there’s just no way to outmuscle Apple’s chips at the moment.
