Four new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 models?
...
...

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 release date and price

One release date rumor points to early 2022 for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8. That's in line with another more recent rumor, which suggested the range would land alongside the Samsung Galaxy S22, which we're expecting in or around January. Another source has also now said the same.

Some rumors suggested the tablets would come in August 2021, a year after their predecessors, but time disproved those notions.

As for the price, there’s no news there, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 started at $649.99 / £619 / AU$1,149, while the pricier Galaxy Tab S7 Plus started at $849.99 / £799 / AU$1,549, so prices may be similar for the next model. If anything though the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 range might cost more, since the trend is for prices to rise.

Design and display

The first major Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 leak to get our attention reveals plenty about the upcoming slate, which will apparently be available in 11-inch, 12.4-inch and 14.6-inch variations – with that last one a huge addition to the line.

Specs and features

Specs-wise, the tablets are said to top out at 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for the largest model according to most leaks, though the latest leaks says to expect up to 16GB of RAM, while 5G variants will also likely be available.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 lineup briefly appears on Amazon Italy revealing everything

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S8 series should be arriving to Europe sooner than later. The entire Tab S8 lineup was briefly listed on Amazon Italy and everything about them was made public. Frankly, it’s not much we didn’t already know about.
All three tablets will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, Android 12 pre-installed, and the display sizes range from 11 inches, 12.4 inches on the Tab S8+, and 14.6 inches on the Ultra, as well as a dual-selfie camera setup that’s specific to the Ultra.

The Korean conglomerate hasn't divulged anything about these products yet, but thanks to previous leaks, we know pretty much everything about the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 lineups. And now a new leak about the S22 and Tab S8 series by Twitter user Dohyun Kim (@dohyun854) leaves little to the imagination.

Galaxy Tab S8 prices

Twitter account TechInsider, which was previously known as SnoopyTech, has revealed the UK prices for Samsung's new tablets and it looks like the starting price has gone up a bit. The base Tab S7 model costs £719 (~964), for reference. Here are the expected prices for the new models
  • Tab S8 128GB model: €769
  • Tab S8 256 GB: €819
  • Tab S8 5G 256GB: €969
  • Tab S8 Plus 128GB: €999
  • Tab S8 Plus 256GB: €1059
  • Tab S8 Plus 5G 128GB: €1159
  • Tab S8 Plus 5G 256GB: €1219
  • Tab S8 Ultra 256GB: €1319
  • Tab S8 Ultra 512GB: €1549
  • Tab S8 Ultra 5G 256GB: €1549
  • Tab S8 Ultra 5G 512 GB: €1699
In the US, the Tab S8 is rumored to start at around $800, the S8 Plus is expected to cost between $900 and $1000, the base S8 Ultra is tipped to go for nearly $1,100. If that indeed is the case, the Ultra will be priced the same as the 128GB 12.9-inches iPad Pro which has a faster chip. Which of these will emerge as the best tablet of 2022 remains to be seen. If the Tab S8 looks like it could be your next tablet, you may want to reserve it today.

___EDIT___
Samsung teases its Galaxy S22 Unpacked event for February by alluding to the potential merger of its flagship Galaxy S and Note lines and also opened the preorder reservations option for its upcoming Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra phones, as well as the Galaxy Tab S8 series.
There would also be nice early bird discounts and bonuses to be had if you decide to hit the "Reserve now" button to buy the phones and tablets later, in the form of the usual $50 credit, plus undisclosed "exclusive offers" that will become known when the S22 preorders start.

Galaxy Tab S8 series are avaiable for preorder:

Deciding between a regular, large, or extra-large Galaxy Tab

While the trio of tablets share a lot in common — including eight-core processors, a starting storage capacity of 128GB, quad-speaker arrays, metal chassis, and a new S Pen included in the box — there are some key factors to choose from based on your priorities. The most obvious one is size, with nearly five inches separating the Tab S8 from the S8 Ultra.

The Tab S8’s smaller screen isn’t just more portable — it’s also relegated to using a more basic LED panel, while the two jumbo-size tabs get the OLED treatment. Larger OLED panels with higher contrast and color quality make the Tab S8 Plus and S8 Ultra a logical choice if you enjoy watching lots of videos or prefer more physical space to use the included S Pen. Though if you’re a notch-hater, be aware that the Tab S8 Ultra has a little cutout at the top to accommodate the larger screen. Lastly, if you require a cellular-connected tablet, the Tab S8 Plus is the only model configurable with a 5G radio.

As for color options, the Tab S8 Ultra comes in graphite (dark gray), while the Tab S8 and S8 Plus can be ordered in graphite, silver, and pink gold finishes.

How to preorder the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets

You can currently preorder these new tablets directly from Samsung or from various retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H Photo. The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus is the only 5G-capable tablet of the trio, so it’s also available at mobile carriers like Verizon. Let’s break down availability model-by-model, highlighting any special promotions on offer that you can take advantage of if you’re an early adopter.

Preorder the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

The 11-inch Galaxy Tab S8 is preorder-ready from Samsung, Best Buy, Amazon, and B&H Photo, starting at $699.99 for 128GB of storage. Stepping up to 256GB brings the price up to $779.99. All four retailers are sweetening the deal for early adopters a little by throwing in a free slim book keyboard cover with the preorder.

Android 12L is Google’s next “big” update for the platform, and it’s focused on improving the experience for bigger screens, including foldables and tablets. Alongside the launch of its Galaxy Tab S8 series today, Samsung has officially confirmed that Android 12L is coming to the company’s tablets … eventually.

Android 12L was announced late last year with a handful of improvements for big-screen devices, including a taskbar for faster multitasking and a revamped notifications tray. The launch comes without any first-party hardware to show off on Google’s part, though, which leaves partners to showcase the platform.

Samsung is no stranger to Android 12L itself, as Google confirmed that Android 12L features would be coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 back when the update was first announced.
Speaking to 9to5Google, a Samsung spokesperson has confirmed that the company is “committed” to bringing Android 12L to its tablets but couldn’t offer a timeline for its arrival.

Taking a backseat to the launch of the Galaxy S22 series is the introduction of three more high-end Galaxy Tab devices – namely the Tab S8, Tab S8+, and Tab S8 Ultra. While not the star attraction, they could be the more interesting trio.

In the world of “extra” tech, a dedicated tablet can offer a great second-screen experience, and on the Android side of the fence, the newly unveiled Galaxy Tab S8 series is vying for your hard-earned money. Are they worth the high entry price? We have gone hands-on to find out.

Samsung's new iPad Pro killer packs a hefty specs sheet and a price to match.

... ...
Let’s talk unique features now. Starting at the top, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the highest-profile model in the lineup. It’s fronted by a decidedly big-for-a-tablet 14.6-inch AMOLED display with a 2,960 x 1,848 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The screen also houses an in-display fingerprint scanner, a spec it shares with its Plus sibling.

This screen size makes the Ultra the best option for those seeking a laptop replacement. It isn’t blemish-free, though. A noticeable notch is positioned on the Tab S8 Ultra’s right-hand side. It’s reminiscent of Apple’s new MacBook line but does pack additional functionality. Two 12MP snappers, a primary and ultrawide, provide different experiences for those perpetually locked in video calls. We don’t expect everyone to appreciate this decision by Samsung.

Finally, the new Samsung tablets are here! Besides the Galaxy Tab S8, we also welcome the Galaxy Tab S8+ and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Until we get our test devices, we first take a look at the hard facts. We introduce you to the three tablets and reveal how they differ from each other.

Samsung also presented its latest Android tablets when it unveiled the new smartphones from the Galaxy S22 lineup. As with the smartphones, there is a Plus and an Ultra variant of the Galaxy Tab S8 in addition to the base model. They are high-quality tablets with which Samsung directly attacks the Apple iPad.

Before we find out in tests whether Samsung is really on par with the iPadOS tablets, we will take a look at the technical specs. You will find an overview in the following table: ... ... ...

Early Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus are remarkably limited upgrades compared to 2020’s Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus. If you’re after an Android tablet, this will likely be a top choice for 2022 – we’ll know at the time of full review - but it isn’t worth upgrading from Samsung’s last release.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus release date and price

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is the cheapest member of this Android tablet family, starting at $699.99 / £649 / AU$1,099 for a Wi-Fi only 128GB and 8GB of RAM version.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus starts at $899.99 / £849 / AU$1,499 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There are many different price options, which are all discussed in a chart below.

Galaxy Tab S8, S8+, and S8 Ultra: Big, Bigger, and Utterly Massive

The 14.6-inch Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra ($1,099) is comically large. I first saw it in a dock with a backlit keyboard and trackpad and thought it looked like a traditional laptop. Wiggle it out of its dock, however, and it's a totally unmanageable size for a tablet. You shouldn't carry this around, but rather lay it down or prop it up on a desk.
I am generally skeptical of large tablets, including the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but many artists, graphic designers, and video editors love the iPad Pro's size; maybe the same crowd will like the S8 Ultra for the same reason. I can at least imagine using the tablet as a second monitor for my PC.

Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra vs. iPad Pro: Performance

We haven’t had the opportunity to test the octa-core, 4-nanometer Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip inside the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra yet, but Samsung claims that it’s the fastest processor it’s ever placed inside a Galaxy Tab device. We don’t have benchmark results (stay tuned for updates), but there’s no way in hell that it could possibly outperform the iPad Pro’s beastly M1 chip.
