To ensure future growth of Sandboxie, the licensing model shifts today from a lifetime licensing model to an annual licensing model.

Licenses issued in the past which did not include an expiration date will remain without expiration date, and may be used on more than one computer, per past licensing terms.

All new licenses issued starting today will expire in one year after initial activation of the product key, and are limited to one computer per one product key.

Find this quite sad, actually; but it makes complete buisness sense.

I wanted to buy a license but had problems with Cleverbridge, they would not accept my Visa credit card, kept saying the card was not valid even though my card is accepted at just about all online shopping sites. If the developer wants to users to buy his product is going to have to do something about the way customers can make purchases. There are no telling how many others had problems with Cleverbridge and that is the only option to purchase Sandboxie. Cleverbridge is a crappy payment service, why not use Amazon instead?

So I just gave up on trying to purchase and now since the lifetime license is gone, I will not consider buying a license. $21.74 per year is just too much to spend.

The free version will serve its purpose for me since I don't use it in real-time anyway just to test unknown products.

Thanks. :D

Aargh, ironically I was about to finally get on board. Have been considering the lifetime license for the past couple of months. I just found it out of my price range. Note I'm not saying it's not worth the money, imo it's about the best software going. I just don't have that money to spare on software.

I find this whole Android thing interesting, where apps cost only a fraction of what would be considered a 'normal' price for equivalent computer software. Because the apps are only a couple of bucks, people seem to be able to splash out on them much more easily (I say seem to, because that's me guestimating by the numbers in the ratings area on Google Play)

I should mention I have zero knowledge of software development, so I have no idea how much more complex computer software is compared to Android apps.

What I do know, however, is that I believe that if the lifetime license had cost less, more people would have purchased it. Again, now I believe that Ronan's decision to increase the price of an annual license compared to the old annual price, self-defeating. Why on earth doesn't he bring the price down a bit, then more people would be inclined to buy it regularly? If I'm not prepared to buy it annually then there is no point in me buying it as a once off. Just as I'm getting good experience under my belt, the year runs out and I'm not prepared to spend that much money on it again. So I move off and look elsewhere.

At this price Sandboxie remains in the realm of specialist software, only people who spend too much time in their pc, and can comfortably afford it, would be willing to fork out that much money. On the other hand, Sandboxie is such great software it would benefit all users!

I'm not saying Ronan should be giving it away, I'm saying I think if he dropped his prices a lot more people would buy it.

Thanks for the heads-up MV

I think for what sandboxie does and can do, it's a good price. Yes the lifetime is a bit pricey but remember that you can use it on more than one computer. I actually have it on 3 at the moment. You're not only getting the sandbox but also the restriction use on the system. You can sandbox and restrict any internet facing programs. Heck you can do it with anything. Sandboxie isn't bullet proof but it is very secure if used properly. Just my 2 cents as a life long sandboxie user.

It is fortunate that markets remain free. That way one can simply choose not to purchase a one year license; respective prerogatives.

alternative ? Comodo IS , no need to pay anything

For users like myself that only need to run suspicious unknown files and don't use the sandbox in real-time, CIS is not an alternative since it requires you to have all of the other processes installed and running.

So in my case, there is no alternatives to Sandboxie, unless I want to use VMWare or VirtualBox.

Thanks. :D

Comodo are actually considering developing the virtual kiosk as a stand-alone application.

I went to buy it last night and saw there was no longer a lifetime option. There is a reason I am a huge AppGuard fan. Lifetime license. Period. No perpetual BS.

Now that their new licensing sucks, I just went ahead and downloaded a patch/crack and pirated the _ _ _ _ out of SBIE. Oh well, so much for trying to pay legitimately .. "they had to make money"

I would follow Bo's advice above, as your method right now, is simply counterproductive.

Here's what purchasing a Sandboxie Pro License gives you (from their website):

The Personal (Home Use) License for Sandboxie:
  • Is personal and is not transferable into computers or electronic media that you do not own;
  • Permit you to use Sandboxie on one (1) computer;
  • Covers the current version and all future versions of Sandboxie;
  • Removes the nag screen that initially appears after you have used Sandboxie for more than 30 days;
  • Enables the Forced Programs and Forced Folders features;
  • Allows you to run programs in more than one sandbox at the same time (see message SBIE1303);
  • But does not entitle you to any guaranteed level of technical support.
  • Price excludes VAT for European customers.
  • Price in USD and other currencies varies according to Euro conversion rate. Please enter the online store to see the actual price.
It does say above that you will start to be nagged about registering after 30-days....that to me is not worth having a free product. I will not continue to use a product that does that. If I want to purchase a product I will, I do not want to be nagged about. I use plenty of free software that does not do that.

The free version is fine for me.In light of SBIE being sold something was bound to change.Eliminating the lifetime licenses might have been a prelude to the sale of SBIE.Whatever the case Invincea now owns it and if you look at the home page they have their Freespace program up there now.All good things must come to an end but at least,for now,Sbie is still a great program and still free.
