Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

  • Press the
    WindowsKey.png
+ R on your keyboard at the same time. Type cmd and click OK.
  • Type chkdsk C: /R and press Enter
  • Restart your PC and let Disk Checker finish its procedure.

"Access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in an elevated mode."

That's weird, is it saying I'm not admin? I only have one profile on the computer. Or does it mean something else?

Sorry.

To start a command prompt as an administrator

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.

  2. Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

Well, I did a search for command prompt and clicked open file location. So, I found it, but now right clicking on it has no run as administrator option.

"The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot be run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)"

I'm assuming yes. However I can tell you that every time my computer starts it tries to run it and it always has issues. Not sure the exact nature specifically, but it doesn't like whatever it's seeing. But it always seems to stop scanning after about 18% through part 2, and once in a while it says it successfully defragged but then it always needs to do it again next time.
