MalwareTips will be offline for about 30–60 minutes. During that time the forum will not be available.

Why: our diagnostics found one of the server’s DDR5 memory modules is faulty. It is flipping bits at random (memtester reported repeated errors, all on the same memory channel). This has caused occasional errors in cached data. We checked the disks and databases and they are intact. Backups are verified and stored offsite. To fix the problem properly, the datacenter will power down the server and replace the faulty RAM.

After the swap we will re-run our memory and data integrity checks before declaring everything back to normal.

Thank you for your patience!

Maintenance complete

MalwareTips is back online. The faulty memory module has been replaced!

The server was offline from 16:25 to 19:03 UTC, longer than planned. After the hardware swap, the server needed a filesystem repair and a network configuration fix before it could come back. Our disk and database checks found no data loss, and backups were verified before and after the work.

We are still running memory tests on the new RAM in the background. If you notice anything unusual, please let us know in this thread.

Thank you for your patience!
