Hello,

Does protecting the settings of the installed product offer enhanced protection from for example malware trying to terminate the processes of the said product? Or does it only protect settings from other user account in the PC?

Yes, protecting the settings of your security product can provide enhanced protection against malware that may attempt to disable or alter its functionality. It also safeguards the settings from unauthorized changes by other users on the same PC.

Most big name AVs should be tamper resistant. Bitdefender on Mac will not let me terminate or change any settings within the UI or program files without administrator override. Even in the case of malware running in admin/root space, good AVs have safeguards in place to prevent tampering. But, once you allow a malware to run in admin space you already have other problems because it can technically hide from the AV and most malware will not go anywhere near tampering with AV products if they don't have to.
