    Shroud of Turin Latest News and pictures for you - recent news and latest scientific facts on the Shroud of Turin, latest Shroud images of bloody Shroud, the Face, nape of the neck, wounds with holes in the foots and hands ..
    But let us be reassured: He's fine now - and will come back here for us, I hope.

    I think - thanks to the results of scientific research on the Shroud - the Shroud of Turin is not a fake, but the true burial shroud of Jesus Christ.

    The Holy Shroud of Turin: Why I believe it to be genuine : on : - thank you very much A.J. Agius - too for your beautiful The Week of Salvation website all content!.. - so link to the site:
    .. The Truth sealed by His blood .. [IMG]Jesus Christ blood

    You have on this thread the unbiased, trustworthy, valuable news and facts, scientific explanations I found:

    Turin Shroud is the photographic negative imprint on both sides of the linen sheet, believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ ..

    'Scientifically, we don’t know the age of the Shroud of Turin. But we do know it is at least twice as old as the now discredited carbon 14 date. As for the images, we have no idea how they are formed. But we do know that they were not made by any known artistic method.
    The Atheist, the skeptic, the rationalist must accept the scientific facts just as a Christian should. To deny that the shroud is authentic requires a leap of faith. So does affirmation. But the Christian who thinks it is the real thing may be at an advantage because a preponderance of evidence points that way.'
    - Dan Porter

    Scientists say Turin Shroud is supernatural : on news :
    'Italian government scientists have claimed to have discovered evidence that a supernatural event formed the image on the Turin Shroud, believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.'
    ' "The results show that a short and intense burst of UV directional radiation can colour a linen cloth so as to reproduce many of the peculiar characteristics of the body image on the Shroud of Turin," they said.' ..
    ' "This degree of power cannot be reproduced by any normal UV source built to date."
    A statement by lead researcher, Dr Paolo Di Lazzaro, said: "If our results prompt a philosophical or theological debate, these conclusions we'll leave to the experts; to each person's own conscience," he said.
    Luigi Garlaschelli, a professor of chemistry at Pavia University, told The Independent: "The implications are... that the image was formed by a burst of UV energy so intense it could only have been supernatural. But I don't think they've done anything of the sort." '

    'No one has a good idea how front and back images of a crucified man came to be on the cloth. Yes, it is possible to create images that look similar. But no one has created images that match the chemistry, peculiar superficiality and profoundly mysterious three-dimensional information content of the images on the Shroud. Again, this is all published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.'

    ' .. Giulio Fanti and Roberto Maggiolo, both of the University of Padua, Italy, have found a second face image on the back of the Shroud of Turin. This image corresponds to the front image but is much fainter.'
    '.. While this discover of imaging on the backside of the cloth makes artistic and photographic methods significantly more implausible, it does lend credence to the possibilities that gaseous amines released by the body reacted with the carbohydrate layers. Some gases would have penetrated through the weave of the cloth and reacted with the backside carbohydrate layer. (And it does not rule out miraculous cause or effect).' - Read more on the Post 12 (page 2), please..

    'What is the Sacred Shroud of Turin? It is the burial cloth in which the body of Jesus was wrapped when he was taken down from the cross and placed in the tomb. This is the cloth which was found lying in the tomb on that first Easter morning of the Resurrection.'

    The Holy Shroud official site: : - in English.
    'The Shroud is a linen sheet whose weave is a herringbone pattern made in the ancient Egypt manner before Christ. It measures 442 cm long by 113 cm high plus a 8 cm strip sewed lengthwise. On the tissue there is a faint impression of an image, the frontal and dorsal one of a man who suffered the death of crucifixion. It’s a “sudarium” or shroud and the image distinctive characteristic is of being like one of a negative film.'

    'Following the scourging and mocking, Jesus had sustained the following injuries, clearly visible on the Shroud:

    1.His beard had been ripped off (See Isaiah 50:6), with severe bleeding from His face.
    2.He had severe bleeding from His scalp from the crown of thorns.
    3.He had lacerations over His right orbit, from punching and beating with rods.
    4.He had fractured nasal cartilages, from beating with rods.
    5.He had sustained bruising of both cheeks from punches.
    This was all in complete fulfilment of the following prophecy in Isaiah 52:14, "Just as many were astonished at you, so His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men."

    Jesus was virtually unrecognisable on the Cross.'

    On Shroud University website (link below):
    'Digitized image enhancement that generates the color red everywhere blood is proven to exist on the Shroud image. The head and face are covered with blood. The blood in the hair was actually on the face but appears to be in the hair once the cloth is laid flat. This indicates the Shroud draped a human form and further indicates that the blood was transferred to the cloth first followed by the image.'

    Ahh... Religion.....a subject that can always create controversy.... The Shroud of Turin has been analyzed and debated for several years now , and I think that the debate will continue long after we will die .... one thing is sure ... people will see and find in him what ever they are searching for.....

    Was the Turin Shroud formed by supernatural flash of energy.. I for one doubt it....... but than again I might be wrong...... The sad part is that I will never find out.. :p

    Actually its really difficult to explain like Turin Shroud formed by an unexpected phenomena.

    Similar phenomena believed by the devotees that its a miracle + could heal with any certain diseases.

    "The results show that a short and intense burst of UV directional radiation can colour a linen cloth so as to reproduce many of the peculiar characteristics of the body image on the Shroud of Turin," they said.

    Saying something can reproduce something similar is quite a different thing than saying this was how it was created. Like so much of the ancient past, any ideas about what actually happened in regards to its creation are merely theories.

    There have been enough convincing 'fakes' over the years that I don't feel there is anything particularly 'supernatural' about the shroud. I'm somewhat astounded that it is a religious relic, but much about what people choose to believe astounds me.

    You won the grand prize of the funniest post!
    I know of course you did this expressly, to make smile us .. so thank you again ..;)

    Best quote I find for you:

    "This icon of Christ abandoned in the dramatic and solemn state of death, which for centuries has been the subject of significant representations and for 100 years, thanks to photography, has been so frequently reproduced, urges us to go to the heart of the mystery of life and death, to discover the great and consoling message it has left us. The Shroud shows us Jesus at the moment of his greatest helplessness and reminds us that in the abasement of that death lies the salvation of the whole world. The Shroud thus becomes an invitation to face every experience, including that of suffering and extreme helplessness, with the attitude of those who believe that God's merciful love overcomes every poverty, every limitation. and every temptation to despair."
    Pope John Paul II, May 24, 1998

    John Paul II insisted it is important to learn lessons from the relic:

    “The imprint left by the tortured body of the crucified one, which attests to the tremendous human capacity for causing pain and death to one’s fellow man, stands as an icon of the suffering of the innocent in every age,” he said in an address at Turin Cathedral, the home of the shroud.

    “Before the shroud, how can we not think of the millions of people who die of hunger, of the horrors committed in the many wars that soak nations in blood, of the brutal exploitation of women and children, of the millions of human beings who live in hardship and humiliation on the edges of great cities, especially in developing countries?”

    .. and the speach of the Pope Benedict XVI : 'MEDITATION OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI' on the Turin Shroud (with video too):

    ".. the Shroud is the Icon of this mystery, the Icon of Holy Saturday. Indeed it is a winding-sheet that was wrapped round the body of a man who was crucified, corresponding in every way to what the Gospels tell us of Jesus who, crucified at about noon, died at about three o'clock in the afternoon." ..

    Shroud of Turin in 3D post here.

    The Shroud of Turin The Holographic Experience : Home: - excellent VIDEO by Vimeo.

    'Just recently I found an article in which theoretical physicist SUE BENSON advanced the idea, that the Shroud’s image may be more than a negative and a 3D encoding. It may actually be a quantum hologram. Quantum holography, still very theoretical, is getting considerable attention in research laboratories as prestigious as IBM, in search of new ways for storing and retrieving large amounts of information. Benson, in an article in the December/January 2001 issue of Journal of Theoretics describes macro-level quantum holography that may be applicable to the formation of the Shroud image. Quantum holographs should produce three-dimensional information as well as negativity and may very well offer some quantum event explanation of how the image was formed.'

    '12. 3D INFORMATION. The image on the Shroud varies inversely with the cloth-to-body-distance. This means that the darker the image the closer this part of the body was to the Shroud and the lighter the image the further away these parts of the body were from the Shroud when the image-processing occurred. This means that every pixel in the gray-scale of the Shroud-image carries a cloth-to-body-distance relationship. This particular quality was used to create the Holograms of the Shroud-image.'

    Foot hole wounds : "A new detail observed on the Shroud of Turin" - The News Association of Jean Carmignac, Paris, No. 50: on , Shroud of Turin News, January 2012 :

    '.. the astonishing discovery made by Mr. Wehrkamp-Richter, who uses – and creates – medical equipment as part of his professional activity. From his friend Barrie Schwortz, a photographer who was a member of the American research team STURP in 1978, Mr. Wehrkamp-Richter has acquired a full-size facsimile of the Shroud of Turin, which reproduces on transparent photographic film more than 4 meters long everything that is impressed on the Shroud. Very close observation, aided by adjustments in lighting and contrasts, has allowed him to discover the image of a geometric form in the centre of surrounding blood traces ...'
    'This triangle is nearly equilateral; an exact geometric figure, which appears within the bloody image. What is the meaning of this image? ... Can we see the image of a hole which partially preserved the clear boards in the flesh, even if the hole has been partly filled in a second phase? ... Are these traces remainders of coagulated blood, which when dried out, became hardened and preserved the form of the nail? Is this the silhouette just of the hole which one can see and which the enormous nail has driven into the flesh of the man of the Shroud of Turin? ...'
    '.. on a Shroud Scope close-up of the right foot area (see above), there does seem to be something angular there, although I cannot definitely make out a triangle at that level of resolution. But if it is confirmed that it is the imprint of a large Roman nail (and that is the term Thomas used in Jn 20:27 KJV: "Except I shall see in his hands the print [Gk. tupon = Lit. "type", i.e. the "stamp" or "mark" of where the nails were] of the nails ... I will not believe"), then, as I replied to the commenter who told me about the article: "This is [or will be] the final nail in the coffin of Shroud inauthenticity (pun intended)!" '
    ' The question is no longer: Is the Shroud of Turin Yes or No the authentic Shroud of Jesus? But how can anyone still say today, at the beginning of the third millennium, that the Shroud of Turin is a fake, given all the scientific work that has been done in the last hundred years and more? Now we know with absolute certainty that the Shroud of Turin is unforgeable. And if the Shroud of Turin is authentic, then it is a direct witness of Resurrection ...'

    Original enlarged photo by Reginald Wehrkamp-Richter showing a triangular shape in the right foot of the Man on the Shroud ( in article): Turin Shroud - triangle in right foot now: xzXA1.jpg

    I think we should thank God for the X-Ray information contained in the Shroud of Turin, which has allowed to see the triangular shape of the wound in the leg bone.
    - I see that the greater visibility of this triangular space is provided on the negative image with reduced contrast that I've done from the photo above .. so I want to show you my finely tuned image: Turin Shroud - triangle in the right foot, now: Cm1Rb.jpg

    Nail of Trier: [IMG]
    ‘Nail of Trier’ .. is preserved today in the Trier Cathedral Treasury (Germany). Under the name Augusta Treverorum, Trier was the Roman capital city where Emperor Constantine and his mother Helena reined before choosing Byzantium, renamed Constantinople, as the new capital. At around 326 AD, just after the council of Nicaea, it was Empress Helena who visited the Holy Land and the Holy Places in Jerusalem and returned, according to tradition, with this large nail and a long tunic belonging to the Christ. This Holy Nail of Trier and its tip (which is preserved separately in Toul, in north-eastern France) have a combined length of about 21 cm.' - Nail of Trier image and quote from PDF: jean-carmignac-en[1].pdf

    The Holy Nail Photo: Trier Cathedral Treasury : on :

    'Relic of the Holy Nail with reliquary made c.980 AD in Trier. The reliquary was made under Archbishop Egbert (977-93) to enshrine the relic brought to Trier by Empress St. Helena in the 4th century. It measures 21.4 cm (8.5 in) long. The iron spike, said to be one of the four with which Christ was nailed to the cross, was a highly important relic in medieval Trier. It was carried in processions, used for swearing oaths, and is reported to have healed several blind people during one of its exhibitions.' ..

    So look well, how He was tortured .. souffered a terrible torture ..

    'Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails' ..

    A scientific researcher specialising in early Christian archaeology, Dr. Siliato : 'The wound on the wrist appears on the Shroud as a simple blood-stain. But if you pass an optical fibre between the cloth and the protective lining which was stitched to the Shroud in Chambéry in 1532, and photograph it from behind, the wound appears to be square. Due to dehydration, Jesus’ blood was very dense. Only in the place where the nail was removed was the blood sufficiently liquid to leave a trace, on the back of the cloth.' .. Yes, the wounds in the space of Destot.

    The Wounds in Christ's Hands - Correcting a common misunderstanding : : -- by Ronald L. Conte Jr.

    .. 'An analysis of the Shroud of Turin, which many believe to be the actual burial shroud of Jesus Christ, shows a blood print in the location of the bones of the wrist - look on the web site: . This analysis is in agreement with those medical experts who conclude that the nails of crucifixion would have to be placed between the wrist bones in order to support the weight of a man. Furthermore, a nail placed through the space of Destot (between the wrist bones) would injure the Median nerve and likely cause the thumb to turn inward. On the Shroud of Turin, Christ's thumbs are not visible, perhaps for this very reason.' .. 'Some artists have depicted the nails of Christ's Crucifixion as being placed in what is commonly called the wrist. These depictions are the result of a misunderstanding. The space of Destot, where most medical experts claim that the nails were placed, is located between the first and second row of wrist bones (carpal bones) in the heel of the hand' ..

    About the nailing of the hands - look too on : Photography of the Shroud of Turin :

    'Examination of the area of the hands on the Shroud shows the left hand over the right hand (remember the image is transposed in a photo - negative image). There is also a puncture wound in both wrists, from which blood is seeping, draining up both forearms on the Shroud.
    In mediaeval paintings the nails were always painted inserted into the palms, rather than the wrists. Experiments on dead bodies shows that the weight of a human body cannot be supported by nails through both palms.
    As the Shroud clearly shows, the nails were in fact inserted through the wrist, through a small depression easily palpable on the dorsum of the wrist known as "Destot's point". The Roman soldiers were very skilled at Crucifixion, and searched for this exact point. The nails would have passed directly through the Median nerve in the Carpal Tunnel, causing excruciating pain.
    As can be clearly seen on the Shroud, the thumbs appear to be missing from both hands. There is a reason for this, as explained below.' .. ..

    RE: News and Views on the Turin Shroud

    When I was a kid, I used to seek God's face in my mind's eye. The image that is posted does not look very similar, but it is uncannily peculiar that by viewing that image made me remember something I have forgotten about for decades. What a trip.

    Posterior part of the head (la nuca in Italian, the nape in English ..):

    'Around the upper scalp and extending to its vertex are at least 30 blood flows from spike punctures. These wounds exhibit the same realism as those of the hand and feet: the bleeding is highly characteristic of scalp wounds with the retraction of torn vessels, the blood meets obstructions as it flows and pools on the forehead and hair, and there appears to be swelling around the points of laceration. Several clots have the distinctive characteristics of either venous or arterial blood, as seen in the density, uniformity, or modality of coagulation (Rodante).' .. quote from Autopsy link on :

    The Forensic Pathology of the Images on the Man on the Shroud of Turin: on :

    A second Face image found on the back of the Shroud of Turin.

    'The peer-reviewed journal of the Institute of Physics in London, on April 14, 2004, announced that Giulio Fanti and Roberto Maggiolo, both of the University of Padua, Italy, have found a second face image on the back of the Shroud of Turin. This image corresponds to the front image but is much fainter. And this image, like the front image, is completely superficial to the topmost crown fibers of the cloth.
    Because both images are superficial (meaning there is no image or colorant of any kind between the two image layers on the extreme outer faces of the cloth) and because the images are in registry with each other, all so-far-proposed fakery proposals are moot. The images are not paintings and not some form of medieval proto-photography.
    When the Shroud was examined in 1978, the backside of the cloth was not accessible. At that time, the Shroud was sewn to a backing cloth. Quoting from the IoP press release of April 14, 2004:
    Because the images are extremely faint, the duo [Fanti and Maggiolo] has used an array of image-processing techniques -- including Gaussian filters, Fourier transforms and template matching -- to highlight human features.
    They found that the face of the man that can be seen on the reverse of the Shroud matches that observed on the front. The image shows faint details of a nose, eyes, hair, beard and moustache . . . The Italian duo was also able to make out weak images of the man's hands, but could not produce images of his shoulders or back.' ..
(And it does not rule out miraculous cause or effect).'

    Next photography is from this link : Prof. Avinoam Danin

    '.. it became obvious that, although the image of the Man on the Shroud was anatomically correct, there were image-less areas in the grayscale of the body. When the 3D formed on the Z-axis (on the computer screen in the direction of the viewer), these image-less areas showed up as “holes”, because they did not contain the body-to-cloth distance information (3D) that characterizes the rest of the image.' ..

    The Shroud of Turin changed my life .. : on :

    '.. I first became aware of the Shroud in 1975 when I saw a picture of the Shroud’s facial image included in a newspaper article about the famous relic. From that moment on, I have studied the Shroud and have become a staunch advocate for the acceptance of its authenticity as the true burial cloth of Our Lord. Because of my devotion to the Shroud, I have given presentations on it throughout the country.
    Early in 1978 it was announced that the Shroud was to be placed on public display in Turin, Italy for the first time in nearly 45 years. My wife, a life-long Catholic, strongly encouraged me to make the trip to Italy to see the Shroud first-hand. I believe that she sensed that this experience would become a life-changing event for me, which it did. I was not a Catholic at the time, but that would soon change.
    When I stepped onto the viewing platform to examine the Shroud I was overwhelmed with emotion because the image of (the man I believe is) Our Crucified Lord is powerful beyond words. It has the power to be an instrument of conversion, and I say that from personal experience. I went to Turin as a Protestant, but returned with the conviction that the Catholic Church is the one true Church founded and guided and sustained by Jesus Christ.' - written by Pete Remmert.

    Akiane’s Jesus, Heaven is for Real and the Man in the Turin Shroud : on the best blog about Shroud of Turin - :

    'There is a new, very popular visionary picture of Jesus that many think must be accurate. It is quite okay to be skeptical about such visions. Nonetheless, how it compares to the image on the Shroud of Turin might significantly impact how the public thinks about the authenticity of the shroud.
    Last week I received an email from a reader that threw me for a loop. She wrote:
    "I just finished reading “Heaven is for Real”. I am thinking that the Akiane Prince of Peace is very similar to the man in the Turin Shroud. STURP and now the Shroud Science Group with all its scientific books and journals cannot begin to match the power of this story. Four-year-old Colton Burpo left the hospital operating room and went [to] heaven where he saw Jesus. Later, he confirmed that Jesus looked like the Akiane Jesus. The Akiane Jesus looks like the Turin Shroud."
    The Akiane Prince of Peace? The book, "Heaven is for Real"? A kid who saw Jesus in heaven during some sort of purported near-death experience (NDE)? Really? And does this visionary picture look like the man in the Shroud?' ..

    .. and French link of Thierry Castex website here:

    Marcel Alonso on Rogers’ Impurity Layer : on Dan Porter blog here:

    'With adapted numeric treatment, the French engineers Castex, de Bazelaire and Doumax succeed to “equalise” the basic tint of each thread in the region of the face.” (Personal note : they did this to remove the banding effect we see everywhere on the Shroud, particularly noticeable in the region of the face, which had a proportional effect on the intensity of the body image). Alonso continue : “The image carried by the threads appear then purified of every parasites that can deform it, and it is a more regular (enhanced Tourin Shroud) face, less severe, and more conventional, that we can contemplate.' .. - ( .. ) - my add.

    - then A GIFT OF MARY'S TENDERNESS .. The Shroud shows that Jesus had long hair, which is a sign that He was a man dedicated to prayer. The Bible often makes reference to this custom. Jesus in the last 15 hours of His earthly life had His hands tied behind His back as a prisoner who was moved from one tribunal to another, and finally with the cross tied on His shoulders He climbed Calvary and there He was nailed to the Cross. In looking at this particular of His hair it is surprising to see that it is well combed, well composed, while it should have been in a messy array since He had no way of even pushing it away from His face. This means that someone at the sepulcher, at the very last moment, must have tenderly combed His hair. .. What a gift to us! We too now can look upon that Holy Face and see in it the loving tenderness of Mary, the maidservant of the Lord, who, with her soul pierced by the sword, could still make Her Son look lovely for all the generations to come. - read more at, please.

    The Pray Manuscript

    The Pray Manuscript : on Stephen E. Jones blog : :

    Hungarian Pray Manuscript or Pray Codex (1192-1195) image: "The Entombment" (upper) and "Visit to the Sepulchre" (lower):
    [IMG]from Hungarian Pray Manuscript or Pray Codex

    .. 'The leading geneticist, the late Prof. Jerome Lejeune (1926-1994), after personally inspecting the Codex, in 1993 published a list of common characteristics between the Pray Manuscript's third and fourth drawings and the Shroud: 1. the shroud is twice the length of the man; 2. a herringbone weave pattern; 3. an `L'-shaped pattern of holes on the front and back; 4. beard and long hair; 5. mark above the right eye corresponding to the reverse `3'-shaped bloodstain on the Shroud; 6. body naked; 7. right hand over the left; 8. long fingers; 9. no thumbs; 10. nail wound on the wrist of the right hand (pl. IV); and 11. three nails used for crucifixion (pl. IV). [2] [10] [20] [25] [37] [38] Professor Lejeune therefore concluded:

    "Such precise details are not to be found together on any other known [Christ] image - except the Shroud which is in Turin. One is therefore forced to conclude that the artist of the Pray manuscript had before his eyes ... some model which possessed all the characteristics of the Shroud which is in Turin." ' ..

    .. 'But the Pray Manuscript: 1. with its at least eleven common characteristics with the Shroud, including the artist's representation of what are `L'-shaped burn holes on the Shroud, can only be based on the Shroud or a faithful copy of it; and 2. is dated at the latest 1192-95 (and probably at least a 100 years before that for the religious tradition to arise and become widespread that the cloth was the burial sheet of Christ [16]); ' ..

    .. 'Moreover, dating from 1192-95, the Pray Manuscript is confirmatory evidence that the Shroud was in Constantinople from 944-1204 [2] [21] [34] and if so, it bridges the gap forward from Constantinople 1204 to Lirey, France in 1355, and also backward from Constantinople, through Edessa to Jerusalem in c. 30AD!' ..

    `Or the artist of the fake shroud knew of the Pray Manuscript and incorporated these signs into his forgery?' : too by Stephen E. Jones :

    .. 'It would be blasphemy, a capital crime in the Middle Ages, for an artist on his own initiative to depict Christ naked, unless He already was naked on the Shroud, which was regarded as acheiropoietos (Greek for "not made with hands").' ..

    On Christ Naked in Medieval Art .. : by Dan Porter:

    Yes, another 'Must Read' - as pointed out in his post Dan Porter, is the article by Stephen E. Jones about recent Wikipedia entry on the Pray Manuscript: My critique of "The Pray Codex," Wikipedia, 1 May 2011 :

    'One of the five illustrations within the Codex shows the burial of Jesus. It is sometimes claimed that the display shows remarkable similarities with the Shroud of Turin: that Jesus is shown entirely naked with the arms on the pelvis, just like in the body image of the Shroud of Turin, that the supposed fabric shows a herringbone pattern, identical to the weaving pattern of the Shroud of Turin, that the four tiny circles on the lower image, which appear to form a letter L, "perfectly reproduce four apparent "poker holes" on the Turin Shroud", which likewise appear to form a letter L.'

    - Stephen E. Jones explains:
    'These are the main features shared in common between the Shroud and the PM. But a more complete list includes at least twelve (12) unique features shared between the PM and the Shroud:

    1.Jesus is naked (uniquely in the medieval era);
    2.His hands are crossed over His pelvis;
    3.Jesus' right hand is over His left;
    4.there is a nail bloodstain in His right wrist (Plate IV); thumbs are visible;
    6.Jesus' fingers are very long;
    7.there is a mark above Jesus' right eye corresponding to the reversed `3' bloodstain on the Shroud of Turin;
    8.the Shroud is more than double the body's length;
    9.the Shroud has a herringbone weave pattern;
    10.the Shroud has an L-shaped pattern of four `poker holes';
    11.and another pattern of five `poker holes';
    12.the end of the PM's shroud below Jesus' feet (upper scene) has a ragged edge which corresponds with (i.e. does not perfectly match) the Shroud of Turin's, with the latter's missing corner not yet removed.

    Regarding points 10 and 11 above, a pattern of four L-shaped small circles on the PM matches a pattern of four `poker holes' burn marks on the Shroud of Turin; as also does a pattern of five small circles on the PM correspond with the same number of `poker holes' burn marks on the Shroud. See below. These refute the alternative that the Shroud was copied from the PM, because a forger would be most unlikely (again to put it mildly) to conclude from the patterns of small circles on the PM that he should fold his forgery in four and then thrust a hot poker four times through it! So these `poker holes' alone prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Shroud of Turin is the original from which the 12th century PM is a copy.'
