RE: Latest News and pictures on the Shroud of Turin

I like those as well. Discovery and TLC used to have a lot of interesting programs, but now they seem to be focusing more on reality type shows (like that family that has an absurd number of kids) that are not as interesting to me.

RE: Latest News and pictures on the Shroud of Turin

Oh they still have that program running about that family?

Discovery I used to watch the science channel, since they had some forensic programs but we lost the channel here.

Since the channels are part of the UK satellite channels, some I can't get it unless I pay extra for what I already pay.

There is one called Crime and Investigation channel which is also very interesting.

@HeffeD,
'It's one thing to post religious imagery, it's completely another to start calling people who do not believe the same things as you, ignorant or stupid.'
I totally agree in general with this sentence, HeffeD!
Yes I spoke of ignorance of so many people in our neighborhood which each one - especially me, believe me - surely has met in his life .. This hurts me. But I never treated anyone stupid, sorry. But if you understood otherwise, I apologize, yes this was not my intention of course.
And thank you for your comments, I like you. Then answer like this is a good fit? ..

Here you have the Shroud of Turin (I think ..) attached along the bed of King Abgar:
x9QgG.jpg

Abgar%20-%20A-484%20-1.jpg - now x9QgG.jpg scaled 500x700 Sh1

Here I cropped the precedent image, the Shroud of Turin (I think ..) attached to bed of King Abgar is shown here:
NdDDF.jpg

Abgar%20-%20A-484%20-1.jpg - now NdDDF.jpg cropped 478x581 Sh1

Here the 'detail' of the precedent image, the Shroud of Turin - or the Mandylion of Edessa deployed in its original dimensions?..:
Yikko.jpg

Abgar%20-%20A-484%20-1.jpg - now Yikko.jpg crop 700x355 slightly sharpened ..
Even someone cut the corner to get the relic .. I think ..
Source of this remarkable image (1017x1423) here: on personal.ceu.hu .. abstract: http://www.personal.ceu.hu/students/05/Nino_Kavtaria/abstract.html by Nino Kavtaria, thank you very much!..
So this beautiful picture came from 'The 11th century illustrations of Mandylion and Abgar's cycle from Georgian Gospel-Book Manuscript A-484 (the co-called Alaverdi Gospel, manuscript made and illustrated at the Georgian scriptorium of Kalipos monastery on the Black Mountain, near Antioch before 1055)'.

Here you have the real (I think) true Very Icon, Holy Napkin, Mandylion of Edessa copy from 16th c.:

I am free to think, to question, to seek and to explore the universe God made and to find the truth of things and the inexhaustible mystery of things. Shroud of Turin Latest News and pictures - Prorootect topic for you here:

The lion of the tribe of Judah is a Messianic title.

Christ is from the tribe of Judah (Hebrews 7:14, Matthew 1:2), He was born in a royal family "The House of David" of the Tribe of Judah.
Jesus Christ is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah:
Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Shoot of David, has conquered; he will open the book of the seven seals." (Revelation 5:5).
Leia mais em: http://www.bibliacatolica.com.br/21/73/5.php#ixzz23LUdL3Qp

The lion is the symbol of the might, royalty, resurrection of Christ .. Lion represents Jesus Christ - the royal Shoot of David - which is risen from death.

Jesus Christ symbolizes the four living creatures: He suffered as a man, like the sacrificial ox was killed, like a lion conquered death, like an eagle flew up to heaven.

Psalms, 89:19: Our king is in the hands of the Lord; the God of Israel is our shield.

The Lord is my strength, my shield. My heart was sure of him, I have been helped and my heart exults, with my song I give him thanks. - Psalms, 28:7.
Every word of God is true, he is a shield in whom man can find refuge. - Proverbs, 30:5.
O Israel, trust in the Lord; he is your help and your shield! - Psalms, 115:9.

I see the Christ's face on this lion's face on the shield (scutum) from Dura-Europos (in Syria), for me very similar to the Christ's face of the fresco in the Catacomb of Saints Marcellinus and Peter, Via Labicana, Rome - look Post #19 (Page 2), please.
So judge for yourself, look at this nice image of a lion painted on a ancient Roman shield excavated by archaeologists, I enhanced:

The full shield picture: look on mariamilani.com : http://www.mariamilani.com/ancient_rome/roman_shields.htm

I think that the legionnaire owner of this shield was perhaps a Christian ..

Here you have the upper part of this beautiful ancient Roman shield from Dura-Europos, I cropped and improved:

- on history-of-macedonia.com : http://history-of-macedonia.com/201...e-intersection-of-empires-for-five-centuries/

I think that the angels - are the angels (yeah ..:D), proving the religious theme of this shield .. but eagle - maybe it symbolizes Christ itself, which like an eagle flew up to heaven ..
Yes, I do not have the knowledge of archeologists, so my explanation may seem to them not very professional ..;)

Look at this ancient Ethiopian symbol for Jesus Christ the Roaring Lion of Judah:
jT3ks.jpg

- some informations I found: In the central part of Cyprus, in the mountains of the Troodos range, some of the most important monuments of the history of Byzantine painting have survived. Ten of these churches have so far been granted World Cultural Heritage status by UNESCO. Eg.: The church of Panagia (All-Holy, Our Lady) Phorbiotissa (Phorviotissa, Forviotissa), better known as Panagia of Asinou, near the village Nikitari, Nicosia, was founded in 1099. The murals of the Church of Virgin Mary of Asinou were painted at different historical periods, but the most important murals are those painted first, which, according to the inscription, were made between 1055-1106, and reflect the painting style of Constantinople ..

- on: metmuseum.org : http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-of-art/1979.217
'The icon carries a Greek inscription identifying Christ as Antiphonetes, "the guarantor." A famous icon of Christ was so named because, according to a miracle story, it had been held as loan collateral by a creditor. The Byzantine empress Zoë (r. 1028–50) had coins struck with the Antiphonetes image and kept an icon of the type close at hand. "I myself have often seen her, in moments of great distress, clasp the sacred object in her hands, contemplate it, talk to it as if it were indeed alive, and address it with one sweet term of endearment after another," wrote court historian Michael Psellos (1018–ca. 1081).'

SERBIA - Christ's Face on the Gracanica Monastery frescoes

'The Gracanica monastery, near Lipljan in Kosovo, is one of the last monumental foundations of King Milutin Nemanjic. Built on the ruins of the former Church of the Holy Virgin, the monastery, finished in 1321, was dedicated to the Dormition of the Holy Virgin. On the southern wall of the chapel is written the king's charter, including the following words: "I have seen the ruins and the decay of the Holy Virgin's temple of Gracanica, the bishopric of Lipljan, so I have built it from the ground and painted and decorated it both within and without".' ..

This is truly an ancient, holy land of the Church. 250,000 Kosovo Serbs were forced to flee their ancestral homeland after 1999.' ..

RE: Latest News and pictures on the Shroud of Turin

I believe that the Divine Creator and Savior laid the foundation of our universe; physics, and so on---Everything that scientists think that they know, and know, is originally from the Divine Creator.

I believe in evolution, but I DO NOT believe humans evolved from hairy knuckle draggers. I believe that most scientists are spot on when it comes to the age of the planet and that most of the first life on earth was during the Cambrian period. I don't believe reptiles became mammals, and so forth. Hundreds of millions of years to us is a split second (actually 0) to our Creator and Savior in Eternity, where Omnipresence, Omnipotence, and Omniciousness dwell as one Godhead.

NONE OF WHAT WE OBSERVE IN THIS DIMENSION/WORLD IS AN ACCIDENT. Even if every living thing originally did come from a single cell, the evolutionary process is not possible without Intelligent Design. When One is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscious, One needs not even 6 seconds to create what we observe, much less 6 days. But for us, or primitive people to fathom it, it took six days.

An Athiest scientist can describe how all of this has been a big accident, but as he explains how the single cells evolved, he or she fail to explain where all the life supporting mechanisms come from originally; such as, water, macro-minerals/micro minerals, protein, fatty acids, amino acids, bacteria, mold, sun, enzymes, vitamins, vegetation, protein etc.
Dont' get me wrong, we have some fabulous scientist out there that are doing a great job unlocking mysteries of Creation, but we also have a few dunderheads.

Umbra .. It is your right, you are free .. Your attitude is probably wiser, look how many Christians were killed because of their faith .. This began in the early centuries with Christ tortured to death, continued with the early Christians martyred, and continued for centuries all ages, everywhere, China, Japan, most recently in Armenia, Middle East, everywhere.
Because of their faith.

RE: Latest News and pictures on the Shroud of Turin

What i will say it is just my point of view without offense to any religion:

for me, God(s) are just expression of the human nature when they try to define the undefinable, it is a tool created ages ago to rationalize what people couldn't explain, it serve the individual when he need to rely on something when all goes wrong.

Lack of scientific knowledge leaded people to rely on supernatural forces to explain weird phenomenon, at our actual era, no religion based on a supernatural entity could be ever be created, science take the lead.

Thanks. :D

Umbra:One have to not publicly claim that if they are believer or non-believer.In most cases I find the claim is wrong.

Second, there is big difference in supernatural force and God.The people who claim that everything going in wrong in their life because of God is really don't know the meaning of God

Remember:
God is not the merchant where you can make give and take policy

God(s) as described is the paragon of supernatural force, creating a whole populated universe just by its only will.
