This will be a quick one.

I recently decided (for fun) to revisit Trend Micro, alongside a few others. And for the purpose of staying up to date.

Memory scanning seems to have been enabled on home machines.

Memory scanning was implemented in the last VSAPI dated May 2024.
Release notes here
Enhancement 2.1.1

So, downloading a file and even right-click scanning it, detects nothing

Upon execution, behavioural blocking kicks in as it normally would.

Right after that, a standard malware detection (pattern-based) is produced.

Trend Micro memory scanning on business products is enabled for real-time scanning by default (for the Cloud One series). It can optionally be enabled for on-demand scans but Trend Micro warns this can reduce performance.

Yes, you're correct. Trend Micro has indeed implemented memory scanning in their latest VSAPI. As for the issue of not detecting anything when downloading a file or right-click scanning, it could be due to several reasons. It could be that the file is clean, or it might be an issue with the software. Try updating the software or contact Trend Micro support for further assistance.

@Trident appreciate your insights and feedback re TM. TM puts a Pay Guard icon on desktop, and user can can force the default browser to run with Pay Guard for URL you input. Other than it saying enchanced protection, it was not specific about what / how Pay Guard does, but I did not dig deeper. TM seems light and its few popups have been clear and appropriate here (fwiw)

Been playing with Trend Micro’s memory scanning. It’s cool but doesn’t catch much on download or right-click scans. Once you run a file, AEGIS and pattern detection kick in fast. Haven’t seen a big difference at home. Heard it can slow down on-demand scans for Cloud One users. Anyone notice performance issues or catches with it?

It’s the classic virtualised browser protected from code injection/patching, malicious plug-ins, screenshot grabbing and so on. Users should use it just for shopping and paying bills, otherwise they reduce their protection if they constantly use it for everything.

The pop-ups are very nice and clean. Trend Micro is one of the few packages that really feel premium and professional, with no ads, no nagging and so on.

Trend Micro has been very good here, feels very light, no slowdowns. happily surprised how it interacts with this VM and with me. I am also running Cyberlock 7.98 beta. sweet :D
