More than 50 speed and red-light cameras across Victoria have been infected by a computer virus caused by “human error”.

A maintenance worker mistakenly uploaded an infected file early in June, allowing the malware to spread to 55 cameras across the state.

Authorities detected the virus last week after noticing the cameras rebooting themselves more often than usual.

There is no information on what the speed cameras are running but by the looks of things its probably windows. People REALLY need to stop getting a desktop OS and sticking it anwhere and expect everything to be ok. The industry really needs to change. People are lazy!! Sure its easy to make windows run on speed cameras, cash registers, ATMs, and even warships :) (Windows for Warships™ reaches Royal Navy frigates) but people need to realize the long term cost. They need to take a either a microkernal os or linux and remove as many things out of the kernel as they can?.Don't need to write to a disk? Then strip out the entire IO system. Please oh please don't stick an embedded web server on one of these things because i'm lazy and want something that i can administer remotely. Someday something really BAD is going to happen. Think if malware infested one of the nuclear subs eekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
