The situation in America is clear. Of the 535 parasites posing as members of congress. easily 450 are corrupt to the core. They are their for themselves, and are only interested in hearing from the voters at election time. They are part of the Swamp that Trump exposed, encompass both parties, and they are corrupt to the core. I've said it repeatedly. As of now, America haa perhaps one of the most corrupt governments on the planet, and I don't see it changing without a revolution.

Regarding healthcare, education, etc. it's socialist, an ideology I and tens of millions of Americans oppose for the very reason I mentioned above. Here in the USA, you have a Right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. PURSUIT of happiness, not the guarantee of same. Nothing is guaranteed us on this earth but our mortality and thus eventual end.

I guess Canada, UK, Germany, France ,Switzerland, Australia, Sweden, Netherlands, Norway, Japan, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Austria, New Zealand, Italy, Iceland, Portugal, Morocco, Greece, Czech Republic ( basically a list of the best countries in the world) are all socialist then? Thank God.

I agree about congress, but my number would be 534, gotta be one good one.

You Canadians are too bothered by American politics. They might be your neighbors but little of what goes on there affects you.

None of them are socialist utopias. Each one has their own troubling problems.

It is just different systems of tax utilization and controlled prices.

I had the same quality of life (very good) residing in the US as living in Europe. So one system does not have an overwhelming superiority over the other.

Technology - especially digital technology - is entirely political and ideological. Politics and ideologies are a strong determinant of security and privacy (or the undermining of thereof).

Hey @Chuck57 someone here took offense to your opinion that nationalized healthcare is socialism. You triggered a few people here.

I personally do not agree with some of your positions, but I will always defend your right to think, believe and speak as you wish.

Nothing you stated was unacceptable. The problem here is that there are people who do not want you to speak. They want to silence you and destroy people who think and believe as you do. Cancel you. Same as happened over at Meta. Now that is unacceptable.

Technology - especially digital technology - is entirely political and ideological. Politics and ideologies are a strong determinant of security and privacy (or the undermining of thereof).

Censorship on social media is part of that problem and is mostly done for political and ideological reasons.

So the discussion about politics is important and valuable to understand all sides.

The general political discussion was ended until Digmore Crusher got triggered by Chuck57 thinking that nationalized healthcare and education is socialism. He\she\it\they]them was so triggered that they could not stop themselves from replying to Chuck57 and bashing American politicians.

TikTok has been on the news for quite some time and hatred is mostly because of the Chinese origin.
China is not really known as a privacy heaven.
Same is with Russia.

The same hatred can be observed towards other businesses, some of which have received bans as well. Huawei’s telecommunication equipment is the best example, phone makers such as ZTE, TCL, appliance makers such as Haier (also known with their brands Candy, Hoover, General Electric, Fisher and Paykel and Hotpoint in the US)and Hisense (also owns Gorenje in Europe) have been in the spotlight too, more specifically with their smart home platforms and questionable data collection/processing practices.

Some of these businesses use European arms and acquisitions to wiggle around the issue, but TikTok hasn’t done so.

That being said, other social media platforms haven’t been less controversial. The issue is very complex indeed. I personally would avoid dealing with Chinese software and services and hence, I’ve never used TikTok, neither I will install a third-tier antivirus such as WiseVector which @oldschool mentioned has been praised, or Qihoo’s 360. Just a personal taste towards more premium solutions.

Invasion of privacy is only a single criticism of TikTok. It's hypothetical use for intelligence gathering and espionage is a completely unrelated matter.

TikTok has been forcibly required to censor topics deemed sensitive by the CCP. lgbtq+++, Black Lives Matter, disabled people, CCP critics, etc. It censors videos that do not please Beijing. The outrage from the censored is huge.

I find that ironic because the leftists are all for censoring those they consider their enemies, but they are outraged when they themselves are censored. I guess for the outraged their hypocrisy is justified. But whatever. Those groups should be allowed to speak. The greater issue is that any kind of censorship whatsoever is terrible, and we all know CCP is big on censorship.
