Is the beta edition good?

No issues here. Beta is updated regularly, a few times a month, but only on third party sites. 2927 on Softpedia vs 2755 on the homepage.

even a portable mkv only player will do for me since wmp is my primary media player. the subtitle feature is very necessary for me.

Considering, that MPC-HC almost died, this is a solid replacement.

v1.7.13 is released and farewell · MPC-HC

They have got some new people since then, but they still lack the manpower, so it is just postponed.

Thanks to @TairikuOkami I switched to Black Edition. Listening to Mozart right now.

I voted other.
When I started using PC the only player I knew was wmp. After some time I was introduced to VLC by a friend, it was quite cpu hungry but did the job. But then I found SMPlayer which I found to be more cpu efficient and with better hardware acceleration. Since then I have tried other players but always come back to it.

I do not have films/videos on my drive. I use for all things YouTube. I installed yesterday Spotify to hear the new album of Cro.
On Windows I use always K-Lite Codecs with Windows Media Player. For music Winamp or so.

MPC-HC with K Lite codec standard. Used to use Potplayer but went back to MPC-HC again. Still use Potplayer for .TS video files because MPC-HC sucks at that.
