If you had to choose one layer that contributes the most to your personal security, which would it be and why?

I'm interested to see whether opinions differ between home users, enthusiasts, and professionals. It can be a software in particular, a technique or configuration, a module of the AV/OS, a browser extension etc.

In my case it is Application Control from Kaspersky. I believe it's the most important layer of all my personal security.

The single most important thing for me, is to be very careful about what files I open. I don't feel the need to harden my system or go to great lengths to secure it, as I prefer to receive as few security alerts as possible and in my case, I just don't feel that I actually need to do anything more to keep me secure. In my case, I can say from years of experience, the chance of getting infected, when I'm not opening random files and am using an antivirus, is exceptionally low.

For me the best class of tool is Applicatioin Control. That is, WDAC on Windows, and fapolicyd on Linux.
I use WDAC on it's own, like with the tool WDAC Wizard or Powershell, and not pre-configured as part of anything else like WHHLight.
Not pre-existing on my box = it doesn't run; malware, hackware.

The second most important layer is my offline golden image.
