If you'd be willing to share more (of course you do not have to, and if you decide to, you can be selective on which ones you do want to answer).

1. What particular features of Kaspersky Internet Security appeal to you the most?
2. Do you know what makes Kaspersky stand out to you more as a vendor compared to others?
3. Do you personally think that Kaspersky's User Interface has any contribution to you wanting to stick with them over another vendor (instead of it just being based around the actual functionality of the service/s)?
4. Would you be willing to pay twice the amount you're currently paying for Kaspersky Internet Security, or would you switch to something else if this was the case? If so, who do you recon you'd try first as a switch alternative?
5. If Kaspersky had to drop one feature from the Internet Security, which one would you prefer it to be?
6. If Kaspersky had to add one feature to the Internet Security, what would you suggest for this feature to be, and why?
7. If you are not a single user on the environment you're using Kaspersky on, do you think it is friendly for any other users of the same environment? If not, why?
8. On average, how would you say Kaspersky affects the performance of your environment? Pretty badly, medium, or not even noticeably?

Just to be clear, I am trying to conduct some private research on what's trending/appealing to both novices and security software geeks among the security software market for Anti-Virus solutions targeted to home consumers. Which explains why I am interested in the answers to the questions above - no pressure.

1.
  • TAM (Trust Application Mode is one of core features of KIS)
  • the build-in AdBlocker (but i think it must be improved)
  • KSN
  • Kaspersky it's able to monitor encrypted connections without have a huge impact
    on performance
2.
  • Kaspersky in my opinion stands out from other vendors as a product that reacts quickly to new threats
  • Eugene Kaspersky, thanks to his "figure" can make the product more credible (in addition to tests in the laboratory as av-test, virus bullettin...)
  • Awards, Kaspersky in recent years has received many awards outperforming other top vendors.
  • With Kaspersky the possibility of infecting the PC with viruses is really low (for an unaware user)
3. Yes, the UI is so simple that even non-expert users can easily use the program.
4. I don't know, but for now the price is fair. 40-50€ is the right price.
5. The IM Anti-Virus protection, it's pretty useless.
6. Add a virtual environment/sandbox mode that allows you to run applications in total security.
8. Yes, there is an impact on performance and I think Kaspersky should work hard on it (but it's not a dramatic thing, but if you have an old computer the thing becomes dramatic)

P.S. Sorry for my bad english :/

I like Eset IS but I don't wanna waste more time on security tools.
I'm using panda free+Intezer Analyze website to analyze downloaded Exe files.
Panda Pros:
1-light
2-Not much telemetry
3-Not buggy and problem free
4-install and forget
Panda is More than enough for me.

I'm interested in pretty much all of what you've said. Feel free to share anything - I'll take a look.

here’s the checklist but no product ticks everything, I use it to narrow down to 1-3 products.

Just a note I don’t care about stuff like a VPN bundling as I don’t use it, nor backup ( I use other stuff for that ) nor encrypted volumes nor secure shredding nor password management. I also don’t care about secure browsers as I trust Chrome & Edge more than these products.

The enumerations below don’t indicate ranking amongst the factors

Protection
=========

1) amongst top scorers from labs - counting user probes as successes, preferably consistent over time unless it’s a new product
2) good anti exploit scores
3) keylogger protection , ideally protection of clipboard & screenshots too.
4) offer ability to run my browser virtualised or sandboxed
5) monitoring for suspicious behavior, registry edits, heuristics
6) MBR protection
7) UEFI protection
8) GUI that allows for easy configuration of autorun, camera blocking
9) frequent signature updates
10) monitoring of destinations for all connections

Performance
============
1) reasonable memory footprint
2) not take more than half a day for a full scan

Platform
=======
1) vendor needs to support : Windows, OS X, Android. Linux is an optional plus
2) offer a web dashboard with endpoint views
3) the said dashboard needs to have 2FA protection
4) email notifications for detections at endpoints
5) cloud component
6) good software practices , the product must introduce as little vulnerabilities as possible
7) a simple GUI
8) offer simple ways to validate that all its protections are switched on

Intrusiveness ( for both security reasons and privacy )
============

1) no replacement of SSL certificates
2) only encrypted communication to AV co
3) light telemetry
4) no business model which monetizes user data
5) preferably av company having a subsidiary entity in a country where GDPR can be enforced
6) no browser addon
7) as little kernel level code as possible
8) no violations of Windows kernel patch protection
9) should not break the OS

Ummm...so the question is:

"Why do you never use the AVs they use?"

- Protection: AV suxx suxx in that field.
- Performance: they suxx at it as well.
- Platform: well... Not on mine lol.
- Intrusiveness: right, right... they are very, very intrusive... Basically they put it deep in your place that never see the sun...

I think I sum it all quite well...

Kaspersky Total Security

1. What particular features of Kaspersky Internet Security appeal to you the most?
-It's light and the UI is relatively easy to understand and navigate. They even provide a guide of what each feature does when you install for the first time.
2. Do you know what makes Kaspersky stand out to you more as a vendor compared to others?
-Yes, the signatures
3. Do you personally think that Kaspersky's User Interface has any contribution to you wanting to stick with them over another vendor (instead of it just being based around the actual functionality of the service/s)?
-Abso-freaking-lutely. So many AV vendors get it wrong. Either not enough information or too much or they use too many graphical effects that lag.
4. Would you be willing to pay twice the amount you're currently paying for Kaspersky Internet Security, or would you switch to something else if this was the case? If so, who do you recon you'd try first as a switch alternative?
-LOL... no. Would probably switch to Eset or just use Kaspersky Security Cloud Free
5. If Kaspersky had to drop one feature from the Internet Security, which one would you prefer it to be?
-Kaspersky Secure Connection. It's bloatware that I uninstall immediately.
6. If Kaspersky had to add one feature to the Internet Security, what would you suggest for this feature to be, and why?
-Check other devices on the network for vulnerabilities such as open ports. The Android app has it, why can't the desktop app have it? I'm puzzled.
7. If you are not a single user on the environment you're using Kaspersky on, do you think it is friendly for any other users of the same environment? If not, why?
-Yes. I'm contributing to the herd immunity in fact.
8. On average, how would you say Kaspersky affects the performance of your environment? Pretty badly, medium, or not even noticeably?
-Not even noticeable.

1.- ESET - IMO hard to beat light, does the job, configurable firewall, licences can be had quite cheaply, used it for many years & never let me down. I install it on mainly people's from work on PC's that are often pretty slow, no complaints from them.

I also find KIS just as good if not better in some respects. Panda DOME, really good but interferes with my VPN & can't use it with Shadow Defender or I would use it. Emsisoft another AV that is to me very usable, little concerned about it protection lately & performance hit. Finally, I acquired some (legal) licences for Norton Deluxe, not used Norton for many (many) years but now it's quite brilliant (shock), hard to fault. I like G-Data but the firewall is bug ridden & even support can't sort it, but if it were not for that would use.

I do think that most AV's these days are OK & our preferred AV are often based on the GUI & how it feels to us - Most people who don't inhabit these forums don't care at all which AV they use, but lots pay a fortune for auto renewals. I do try and rescue such people.

I'm currently using 360 Total Security Premium.

It is extremely light. It got noticeably lighter after the release of 10.0.0.1175 in August.
It prompts me whenever it detects a threat and lets me choose what to do, rather than auto quarantining and if it's a false positive or a PUP I want to keep, I can tell 360 to whitelist it.
The Premium license was cheap on eBay.
Their sandbox has so much potential, but i doubt many of the users really use it since you manually have to create rules

SEPC. It's light(as light as ESET), powerful, and unobtrusive. SEPC also uses encrypted channels for all activity (including updates) as @ForgottenSeer 58943 pointed out to me earlier.

SEPC is great. I recommend it to all business owners I run into. The price is unbeatable as well. I haven't run into anyone I recommended it to that has had a compromised machine. The ML modules in SEPC are vastly improved in this last year as you can see if you test it and get the ML hits on a lot of junk.

Webroot.
Light on system, very low RAM usage ( i only have 4 GB of RAM) and very good CPU usage.
Good web filter and decent signatures.
Also it's total size is very small about 80 MB on my SSD.
That's important for me because my SSD is only 120 GB and for that i want evry MB available.
Most av's are more 500 MB in size and that's a big difference.
I also like some modules were i can block connections and processes very easily if i think something weird is going on on my system.

P.S: Eset is also a favorite of mine due to the tweaking i can do with it so i can increase my system security.

But to be honest i don't really need an av on my system since i have very safe browsing habbits.
With an anti-exe i would be covered security wised.

Isn't Comodo Cloud AV smaller since the installer is only 10 MB?
