India should perceive the ongoing tariff and other events as an opening to minimize trade with the US, develop new alliances, and reassess its international partnerships.
That is how it works with globalization and permitting home-nation companies to offshore operations to reduce costs, by mostly reducing labor expenses. That entire system creates a dependency - no, an addiction - between the organizations. A dysfunctional co-dependency that makes it impossible to work out certain problems.
If India faces negative economic consequences, of course the nation's leadership will do things to reduce those negative consequences.
I think all home nations should have laws that require companies to ensure they do everything to keeps the home nation population employed fully, but throughout the world that ideology is considered NOT politically, economically viable, or practical. There is no willingness from the government to enact such policies, let alone enforce them. There is no willingness of companies to adhere to them. And the people are powerless over insidious offshoring.
Offshoring only accomplishes a few things - it destroys lives in one nation, improves lives in other nations for a short while until those lives are destroyed, and makes businesses larger profits.
People will not pay higher prices within their economies to protect home-nation jobs. That's another huge issue.
Protecting home industries, the employment rate of the home nation's population from foreign competition, immigration, and offshoring is considered xenophopic, racist, and bigoted by some - which is an absurd ideology.
