The intentions of MS could be probably discovered by comparing the telemetry of Windows 10S with Windows 10. If the telemetry would be the same, then the intentions are not fair.
If not, then MS can still claim that extended telemetry is needed to develop Windows 10 and keep customers safe.

I thought to be wiser and more efficient to defer updates for a couple of days so that any irregularities might be sorted out in that time frame.

Weekly imaging is a good idea anyway. You never lose much if you roll back.

I use Dropbox because I roll back a lot. Dropbox is smart enough to tell which version of my files is the newer one, so I don't lose my edits. Other cloud-sync solutions I have tried can't do that.
