Microsoft confirms Windows 11 23H2 on Media Creation Tool will land after "optimization"
Microsoft, this week, released Windows 11 version 23H2. This hardly came as a surprise though. Besides Microsoft's own confirmation that the update was indeed arriving in Q4 (as promised earlier), there was mounting evidence over the last couple of weeks which showed that the company was now in overdrive mode in order to make sure compatibility issues would not be bothering users (both home as well as enterprise).

For those relying on the official Microsoft Media Creation Tool (MCT), there is bad news as you are probably already aware. Although Microsoft's website states that the "Current release" version is the Windows 11 2023 Update or 23H2, the Media Creation Tool still downloads the 22H2.

Earlier, Gabe Frost, a Senior Director and Group Product Manager at Microsoft, confirmed that the company was looking at the inconvenience. Frost responded later that the users will have to wait a while, close to a couple of weeks, as the ETA for Windows 11 23H2 on MCT was planned for November 15, which will be a day after the month's Patch Tuesday update. Currently, there is work going on regarding the "package size optimization".

Apparently, Win 23H2 is not yet automatically installed on all computers that meet the technical requirements for Windows 11. Here is a report from the German Heise publishing house, which publishes the computer magazine c't:
"The Windows 11 feature update to version 23H2 is finally available to everyone. Microsoft released the update on Wednesday night. Windows Update should download and install it on the computers, at least if there are no problems known to Microsoft on the machine. However, this appears to be the case on several of our test computers, where the update is not yet available."

I have three computers that meet the requirements for Windows 11. Of these, only one computer has so far received the update from win 22H2 to win 23/H2 automatically.

I prefer direct ISO downloads and since MS does not like to share:

Microsoft confirms Copilot may mess with desktop icons on multi-monitor setups
On October 31, 2023, Microsoft released Windows 11 version 23H2 as an optional feature update available for those manually checking for Windows updates. The latest release contains plenty of great features, tempting users to pull the trigger and migrate to a newer version or even ditch the old Windows 10. If you are one such user, you should beware of a bug messing with desktop icons.

Microsoft has confirmed a bug in Windows 11 23H2, where using Copilot on multi-monitor setups can cause desktop icons to move unexpectedly between screens:
Windows devices using more than one (1) monitor might experience issues with desktop icons moving unexpectedly between monitors or other icon alignment issues when attempting to use Copilot in Windows (in preview).
To prevent users from encountering this issue, Copilot in Windows (in preview) might not be available on devices that have been used or are currently being used in a multimonitor configuration.
We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

Microsoft released Windows 11 version 23H2 on October 30, 2023, bringing customers the latest features and improvements. However, users could not get the update using Media Creation Tool, Microsoft's official app for downloading Windows images and flashing them to USB drives for clean installations. Shortly after the release, Microsoft confirmed that the MCT still downloads old Windows 11 version 22H2 and promised to release a fix somewhere in mid-November.

As promised, the updated Media Creation Tool app is here. You can now head to the official Windows website and download Media Creation Tool to get your Windows 11 version 23H2 ISO for a clean installation or in-place upgrade. Alternatively, you can download the 23H2 ISO using direct download links on the official website or third-party apps like Rufus. The latter is a great free app for creating bootable USB drives, especially if you need one to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

A Microsoft product manager confirmed on X (Twitter) that the Media Creation Tool now properly returns Windows 11 version 23H2 images:

Just did clean install this morning, then i read about the new version update. Did iso. file with rufus on usb stick but couldnt find the driver, so i pass for now and wait it to come in windows update 😆
Does your system meet the requirements for Windows 11? My system is unsupported and won't get the 23H2 upgrade. It appears to get 23H2 instead of the 6 GB ISO; one can install a 179 KB "Enablement" package.

I just installed the "Enablement" package and upgraded to 23H2.
