We have Windows 7 (Sony Vaio) and Windows 8.1 (Acer Aspire/M) systems, and (even in the shadow of

"The Mighty XP") both perform outstandingly. Something significant to also be considered, since we've already gone over the technical differences, is how well user ergonomics chime together for
your satisfaction. In our home, the larger more roomy feeling Vaio with it's 15" screen & larger more smoothly working keys gives the high performing sports car-like Acer a run for it's money especially when adjusting from the plusher Vaio to the Acer's more compact (lighted) chick-let buttoned keyboard & 11 & 1/2 inch screen.

The choices can be as intangible as comparing music or cars, for even when you know one has considerably more under the hood, there is a sense to how everything can work in symphony as one smooth running machine!
..and
you must decide, with an open mind, to embrace Windows 8/8.1's differences first before fully enjoying them!

PS I think you shall.
