WinFindr 1.7 has been released. Its main improvements over the previous version are:

  1. Greatly improved the support for searching for text inside PDF files.
  2. It’s now possible to search for files based on the file attributes.
  3. The results list now shows more information about the found items - but you can also choose to see only a minimal amount of information, it’s up to you.
The full Changelog is available here: WinFindr Features

Since this is a file searching tool, the number one question is, how does this compare against Everything. In fact, I even wrote an entire page about this: WinFindr - Everything Alternative

TLDR: Everything is a file and folder search tool while WinFindr can also search for registry data, WinFindr contains native, builtin support for searching for data inside PDF files, WinFindr support natural language searching and also that WinFindr is highly customizable. Everything is great if you want to know where that one file whose filename you remember is located at. WinFindr is great when you want to do more, and you want the search tool to look and work the way you want.

WinFindr is freeware, lightweight (about 3 MB), it’s available as a single file portable executable or a setup version and has a builtin support for 29 translations.

This is how it looks like:

Thank you for letting me know! What a sad state of anti-virus products we live in. I spend way too much time reporting these false positives to these companies.

For some reason I'm not getting that on my end, at least with Brave? I disabled F-Secure's extension and only have G-Data, Smart Screen, Norton and Quad 9 enabled. I even disabled all of the options except for Norton, and was still able to access the site?

interesting that Norton did not block for you but with firefox (linux) Osprey Norton blocked it for me. I cannot easily snip the flag now but I can copy it

So also at VT the URL is 0/97 makes me wonder if Norton is trying to sabotage Osprey. I don't know but yes seems odd I am getting this block

Fun fact: I always show the final release files to antivirus products and VirusTotal before any public release. And usually I get a perfect 0 detections score. But what happens sometimes is that after the release, when I submit the exact same binary file again to VirusTotal, then some of the antivirus products have decided to change their analysis and I get a couple false positives. This is especially bad if one of those false positives are from Microsoft and Edge starts to block the file download for users. That kind of mistake is very bad for a small business like mine.

Anyway, rant over. I hope y'all like the app! And if you don't, please let me know why and I will see what I can do to improve that.

The Norton Safe Web people just replied to my "false positive" report saying that the incorrect detection should now be fixed. Thank you for letting me know!
