You might want to check your settings...
I was double checking for shenanigans just like this and lo and behold... they were even nice enough to turn it on for me making it default!
Im not Impressed at all with Edge taking liberties like this.

I have a look every update & they usually sneak some changes in but all it's done it make me almost never use Edge now.
