What should be shocking to some, and don't get me wrong i sound like a ESET fanboy.
But do you know exactly what PCMark is ??
That means, when you are doing work, playing games, sending emails, browsing the web, whatever you may be using your computer for. Testing with PCMark is a great example to just really push the machine and see what it does with these heavy anti viruses that are tightly integrated into the operating system can do, and how much bulkiness they are really applying to the computer.

Some of these other vendors may have been doing well on certain things like transferring files, or what ever methodologies they are using for testing.
But we all know, when it comes down to it, real life testing and slapping the AV on your computer to see how its going to run is what its all about.
PCmark is a really good example of a virtualization test of when people will be doing normal activities, like gaming or using photoshop etc.

Since joining MT, I've heard lovely testimonies for ESET NOD 32, WEB ROOT, Avast, Qihoo, and Threatfire too (among even more..)
yet use the Windows native AVs, Microsoft Essenials (for Windows 7) & Windows Defender (for Windows 8.1) solely, that and browsing always in a sandbox/or with Shadow Defender's Shadow mode set have kept these systems air tight ..except for my hyperbaric chamber sleeping XP.

Very very good point Cats!
I love throwing a wrench in the engine though.
What about users who send hundreds of e-mails using ms outlook or something.
I think Microsoft's security could fall short, and only the common sense and sandbox could save them.

When it comes to lightest it should be the inbuilt Windows Defender.

I'm 85% sure Windows Defender doesn't even use RAM because I've never seen a process, but I could be all wrong.

I got surprised lots of friends mention ESET as a light AV .... I know it s one of the bests regarding performance and impact on system's function.
But this topic is about "Resourse Usage" and ESET is not good(usually uses more than 70mb of RAM) AFAIK.
I think Webroot and Avast are the best in this area.

4.F-Security
5Avira Free
These AV I used and I had no problems with them.

Avira is really light as from my experience too. Do you consider it to be lighter even from Windows 8 Defender?Avira Free without Web Protection is the lightest one that I have tried.

Isnt webroot cloud based? So it would steal internet and that is not good for me because i would like to play online well

From the AV software I've used this year; Avira Free 2014, Norton Security 2015 BETA and Windows Defender in Windows 8.1.
