I totally disagree, of coarse it will have better protection but will flag many false positives to the point that it is not useable.
I enabled it before and it detected many safe programs and block many safe downloads much like BitDefender does.

There is a reason why it is not enabled by default.

Enjoy!! :D
This is very strange. I have never seen a false positive from the hardened mode.

Created an EICAR file and saved it.Avast did'nt catch it without a custom scan. But Qihoo IS and Comodo I.S. detected it in a flash and put it into virus vault
Avast knows EICAR is a fake virus.

What does hardened mode do? Does it block all downloads or something?

It's almost like an anti-executable.

too, only from realy new software or just updates softwares exes. maybe u cant say its a falsepositive. Its just warns u that a unknown programm will start and u can easly exclude it from hardernmode with 1 click on the pupop

Hardened Mode defeats its purpose because advanced users who utilize UAC and only download and run safe programs do not need it.
Novice users would not know what to do if they were presented with a popup like this.

Just by looking at this popup can you tell if it is safe or malicious? It gives you no details at all about what this program is or does.
Of coarse an advanced user would know what to do, but then an advanced user would not benefit from having Hardened Mode enabled in the first place. How many of you would add an exclusion for this popup?

Enjoy!! :D

Well, if it keeps some malware from running that otherwise may be missed or gets through, it's always nice to have someone who has your back. UAC can be had. As for novice users, they get what they deserve. No disagreement, just a fan of insurance.

But how would you know if it is malware or not?
That is the point I'm trying to make. Hardened Mode gives you no details at all for you to determine if it is malicious or safe.

UAC at least lets you know if the file has a digital certificate.

Thanks. :D

Good review but Hardened Mode needs a lot of work before it is useable.

1. Resizable popup window. The popup window is so small that the location is hidden.
2. More details about the detection; such as digital certificate, complete location, file hash, Google look up, VirusTotal check, Avast community check, etc.

Without these features it is pretty much guess work for the users to have to decide whether to add an exclusion or not allow the process.
You make the wrong decision then you system can be infected or a legitimate process gets blocked.

Most users will not know what to do with the limited details.

Enjoy!! :D

If I don't know what it is - it goes in the shitcan. Same if Avast doesn't know what it is. Thank you, Avast!
It's no different with Chromebook - if it ain't from Google, it won't load.
