Avast is pioneer in HTTPS connection scanning

I use Eset on my system and it includes https scanning as a part of protection.
It doesn't noticeably decrease page loading speed so I don't mind about it from this point of view.
From privacy and security perspective I have mixed feelings. I would prefer that they didn't scan network traffic but with current implementation, protection level would drop (probably just slightly), if network traffic would not be scanned. So it's sometimes hard to decide whether to leave it enabled.

I like how Avast/AVG allow you to not even install the HTTP scanning component or uninstall separately it if you have installed everything accidentally.

Yes I understand about not liking systray icon with red exclamation mark. That's why I don't disable HTTP scanning entirely. I just add my browser (or any other process) to Web access protection excluded application list. That way network traffic for my browser is not scanned and systray icon remains without exclamation mark.

In my opinion HTTPS scanning is a mandatory part of a good antivirus. Another option is to install an extension. But no matter what, if you want an antivirus to protect your browser, the antivirus needs access to the inside to check the resources you load. Otherwise, web protection will be limited to hosts only and that limits the antivirus very much.

With Eset's HTTPS scanner, I have never noticed any speed issues. Moreover, I use it as a basic tracking and ad blocker, having put Google, Facebook, Bing and other major vendors' hosts on my blocking lists. And it works on a system-wide level.
