While I prefer disk space analyzers like WizFile that read the MFT (Master File Table) for NTFS drives, I still believe that for file search utilities, indexing remains the best approach. Indexing is generally more accurate than reading the MFT, especially when dealing with newly created files or folders. There is a reason why Windows continues to use indexing to this day.

The good.

1) It is portable.
2) It is blazingly fast.
3) Seems to be able to open all that I tried.

Somewhat annoying.

1) As far as I can tell at the moment, there is no option to have the program remember Window size. I always have to maximise the program.
2) Once you open a file and you click close, it seems to close the entire program... you have to start Apex again.

If these two can be done, then I have not found out how at the moment.

Eusing Registry Cleaner
BulkUnistaller
Vir.IT eXplorer Lite(Italian based AV) offers 60 days but uh, it can serve as a backup for optional scanning. Sophos Home Free but has limitations therefore you're off better with avira/bitdefender as a free av, BD be prepared for the lag it comes with. If you ask me, a paid Hitman.Alert+ClamAV fixes the virus issue for most users, but we're talking free software.

A lot of the free software now become paid... is a sad reality, and Comodo Firewall while it was good that's old, Zone.Alert became paid as well..

Hi all,

Since I can no longer update the original list, I have created a new software directory for Best Free Softwares for Windows.

Instead of highlighting just one top choice, this list features all available options so you can pick and choose what works best for you. In the future, I may also color-code the top recommendations.

I will be adding suggestions from this thread as well. In the meantime, please feel free to share any recommendations for new software or categories.
