Does Avast offer better protection? prove me:p
where is that protection dude?MH tests?these tests are simple(ransomware+common malware) there is no exploit code, there is no network attack test, there is no firmware attack, there is no file less malware(ye only one)...
IDK McAfee is good in these tests or its bad.
But the fact is McAfee, Trend Micro, Sophos,... they are technology based company when avast is not they just got a behavior shield from Avg(shame) they had nothing before.
still, they don't have anything special... take a look at the Avast website and watch their products for enterprise grade then compare it with others.. those products are the technology and protection.
I Never used McAfee just read about it also am a noob user:p
Rehips and app check aren't listed but they can run alongside with any av so what is the problem? this guy wants to choose between these products can you run avast alongside McAfee or Kaspersky?

As i said before, i was not suggesting Avast as an alternative to the choices in the question. I was talking to you and mentioned Avast, which is a free antivirus, that performs way better than McAfee, just to make a point in how McAfee is not a valid option in my opinion. In fact most of both free and paid AV are way superior to McAfee. I'm not hating McAfee, but unlike Norton that improved their product and are back on top, McAfee is just behind in term of protection, usability and functionality.

As Avast providing better protection, a simple look at the latest AV-Comparatives or AV-Test charts will show you they are almost all the time among the last. Same goes for other labs and many Youtube reviews. There's a reason so many MalwareTips members don't even consider McAfee as an option, even though most members of this forum are not fanboys and respect different opinions.

What i do agree with you is that Trend Micro, Sophos, Symantec, Eset, McAfee and so on are indeed companies that are more professional in that aspect that they dedicate themselves in new technologies, malware research and such while Avast, AVG, Avira and other free antivirus companies invest too little for that and too much into crapware and marketing.

In my opinion

I use avast (Because it's free, of course)
but... Norton is the best?

As many other members will probably tell you, there is no "best" product, as it depend on what functionality you use and how well the AV works on your specific machine.

But it's safe to say that Norton is among the best ;)

Before choosing any antivirus free/paid wait and thing
You're best antivirus for your system.
By changing some habits while surfing/plug-in (Pendrives)/downloading unwanted files/Using Crack keygens in system cause problems

I suggest go with bitdefender or kaspersky or norton because these security suite are providing best security to users

If you face any problem in your computer you need help then support comes with paid antivirus.

Stay Safe :)

there is no chance to infect my pc-->
1. i do not click unknown mails
2.i do not visit malicious sites.
3.secondary software like zemana ,mb
4.the cafe i go for printing purpose it has kaspersky so no question of infecting pd.
5.i do not download those key gens cracks etc.
6 .no torrent
i am not using kaspersky for last two years because i have challenged some one (not in the MT)that i can remain uninfected without using kasperksy.

I'd like to copy paste what i messaged this mate. Maybe it will help you guys.

"About your search for a good suite for your machine. I have very similar specs on my laptop: Intel Core i7 7700HQ, 16GB RAM DDR4, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, Windows 10 Home.

I can tell you out of own experience what i've lived.

I've tested on this machine, and by test i mean i've used, let's get out of the Malware Hub testing field by now:

  • Norton Standard 2017
  • Kaspersky Internet Security 2017
  • Emsisoft Internet Security 2017
  • BitDefender 2017

My first though was that as i had high-end specifications, i'd be able to use any of those with no problem. Here's my experience:

Norton: extremely resource-light. Low RAM consuming. Excellent firewall and SONAR (behaviour blocker). Detection very accurate. Had problems when i uninstalled after my license was over. Had to reset Windows from security options.

Kaspersky: Decent performance, slowed my PC a bit. Could notice on surfing load time and apps execution time. Excellent detection and protection rate. Application Control is marvelous, can really make it work with no issues. When i tweaked for maximum protection, such as taking user-control to maximum and best protection, my PC slowed as hell. Had to reinstall to avoid ordinary programs such as Skype opening in 12 seconds.

Emsisoft: very, super light on system. When i tweaked for maximum protection, RAM consuming elevated up to almost 300MB, but out of 16GB it's no problem. No slow downs at all, boot times ok. Behaviour Blocker compared to Kaspersky's and Norton, extremely powerful. Scans very fast and very efficient. Great scores on detection. No exploit protection though. Actually my choice, using it and it's the best out of the best. Can ask anyone on the forums, everybody is recommending it reciently.

BitDefender: excellent real time protection. Signatures are a bit messy but it's a really great detection score. Slow as hell though. Keep away from it. Heavy on my PC.

If you are not into Emsisoft whatever the reason, i'd go with Norton."

McAfee has good insights on the protection core however the problem is its not well performed for home based, inconsistent on the components like detection using heuristics based (Artemis) which been lately soft unless different on business product; McAfee's Web Advisor is aggressive but the major protection is insufficient.

Components like HIPS are targeted in business scale only which why the effectiveness still differ.

@low L!fe I'm sorry if i might sound rude, but most answers from very informed MalwareTips members already gave you some very good advise, and some of them took the time to explain you in detail. Yet you seem focused on McAfee o_O

I am truly open to the idea that everyone has different opinions, that there are no "best" antivirus and that it depends on your system and usage.

But if someone recommend you McAfee instead of the other top-notch products your mentioned, they are either ignorant or biased. At this point it's like saying SUPERAntiSpyware is better than HitmanPro or Zemana. I have nothing against McAfee or SAS, they are just not in the same league.

It would probably be very hard to find one AV that should be the "best".But I think if you follow the different test places like AV comparatives etc, its possible to find something close. I think Bitdefender, Kaspersky and Emsisoft is among the good candidates, but I find they are damn heavy. I would probably take Emsisoft because of the BB. On the other hand I have used Webroot now over 6 years without any infections but alot of blocked malware. First recently added HMP.alert. I came to the conclusion that it probably is overkill. I think on Windows 10 WSA would be enough if you use your head. The ransomware ##### is where you have to be carefull.

WSA and HMPA is a very nice combo. Must be really light on system ressources ;)
