My opinion is that if you want the best protection, Kaspersky hands down. It's pretty heavy on resources though, and it takes a long time to scan.

I cannot recommend either Norton or McAfee because they're both terrible. I can't recommend Norton because sometimes it requires you to 'Get Help' to remove viruses instead of just deleting it.

ZoneAlarm is not really known for being a good antivirus, it's better known for it's free firewall so I can't say anything about it.

Bitdefender hasn't performed as well as some AVs in independent lab tests, but between Kaspersky and Bitdefender taking in account performance, I would have to say Bitdefender. But I would actually suggest Trend Micro if you're constantly connected to the internet. It's lightweight and uses cloud protection. It also scored well in tests by independent AV testing labs recently. If you're not connected to the internet 24/7, I would suggest Bitdefender.

I'll add my ideas and experiences here

Bitdefender
  • Superb definitions and the Cloud detections (ML based) are impressive.
  • Excellent behavior blocker, prone to some FPs in regular use. Paranoid mode is helpful for alerts here. I do check some samples with it before posting at MH & it does great!
  • Ransomware Protection is far stretched in BD. It flags some famous methods used by many safe/legit apps. Example, the attempts of "iPersistFile" interface used by program installers at their end are usually blocked without finding a strong RW indicator. Programs trying to add/modify their ".lnk" link files at installation end are blocked. This design continues from 2017 to the 2018 version I'm Beta testing
  • Adding the installer to exceptions mostly does not work out for the next time
  • The above aggressive methods of trying to achieve full detection can be peace shifting for home users
  • I've seen the word "buggy" be casually used for BD, that does not indicate loopholes as such. It does have terrible lags with or without Battery Mode profiles
  • Visibly slows down browsing speed
  • If I were to use it regularly, I would disable its RW protection and keep another dedicated tool like AppCheck or KasperskyART ;)
Norton
  • I agree with the above comments. However from its performance in AV tests and Hub, it looks quite better than earlier. SONAR is an asset.
  • Used it quite long ago (It would have been great if Symantec and Norton had a strong symbiosis in their developments)
Kaspersky
  • Superb definitions, cloud detections are impressive. KSN Network is an asset
  • Excellent behavior protection (System Watcher) even when offline, like BD
  • Application Control is unique to it. Restricts the rights of unknown and risky apps using its KSN Network data mainly
  • less "heavy and sluggish' than BD, though it might feel somewhat heavy on older systems
  • TAM mode is perfect for a lock-down of systems intended to run only some common applications
McAfee
  • I would not recommend their home version anyway, their records are very clear
  • they're getting better with cloud improvements. However, it does not stand along the above suites.
ZoneAlarm is not much tested and I won't comment on it. It's firewall has been well known though.
I see after reading comments
the Best Protection Bitdefender and Norton'.
Mcafee is Power Web protection (Site Advisor)
Ease of Use Interface and light is version 2017

What do you think?
I hope that the above points are useful to make your decision. Your system is actually powerful enough to run the above solutions with ease.

i do not recommend McAfee or Norton. McAfee does not do well, and Norton hasn't been doing so hot lately either.

I recommend Bitdefender.

McAfee < Zonealarm < Norton < Kaspersky < BitDefender.

What do you think?
Why don't you try comodo firewall on cruelsister's settings alongside windows defender? it'll be light and secure. for 2nd opinion scanner keep hitman pro or eset online scanner.
And reading the comments, everyone is saying kaspersky is best.

ZoneAlarm is not much tested and uses an old Kaspersky engine.

Your specs are very good.
KIS or BD wont give any problem in performance both they have improved a lot.
I don't see a reason to buy ZA since it's using an old version of Kaspersky engine.
McAfee haven't tried it for a long time so i can't say anything about it.
Choosing Norton,BD or KIS i think you will be more than ok.
You should also try for a few days Emsisoft, it's a very good software i think you will be surpised and it has an excellent behavioral blocker

I've a quick update regarding ZoneAlarm.
ZA Extreme Security (and their entire paid product line) and ZA Free Security both seem to have recently upgraded their AV engine.
I can see that the cloud based ML detections of Kaspersky are reported by ZA now, and it's quite fast.
  • New: Support for Windows 10 Creator’s Update
  • Improved: New and improved AV engine
  • Improved: performance enhancements
  • Fixed: A local privilege escalation attack in Anti-Virus.
Check Point would like to thank Florian Bogner for discovering the issue and bringing it to the attention of Check Point.

your laptop is quiet powerful. so you won't have any problem running anyone of them .
from my experience , how everyone of them worked for me, compatibility and performance-wise :
1- Norton
2- Bitdefender
3- Kaspersky
---
X- any other security
Y- no protection at all
Z- Mcafee :p:D

now any of the top 3 is sufficient in protection ... currently , imho the top security suits are norton and kaspersky . norton is very very light. kaspersky as I always say is a tank that you can go to war with, but you're not :p;) .
regarding bitdefender it's always one of the better suites ,for me it's lighter than kaspersky, and play nicer with windows security center, however I'm still waiting to see reviews about the BD 2018's version which is currently in beta , I think it's gonna be much more powerful.
for McAfee all I'm gonna say , as a joke , is that mcafee is heavy even after you remove it:D:D
BTW currently I'm using Windows Defender with modified settings such as PUP and MAPS and enhance cloud protection and I combined it with heimdal pro that I got form a giveaway here.
try each one of the top three I mentioned while using your laptop regularly and see which one feels more comfy ;)

Sometimes people should not be surprise on such exaggerated advertisement from Antivirus advertisement, the number of components does not measure the strong protection cause usually it involves the improvements from 1 to 3. (Signatures/Generic, Cloud and HIPS/BB)

In the comparison, Kaspersky's protection core is the strongest beause it manage to continuously improve throughout the components from time to time; but of course people should familiarize on their Application Control.

Bitdefender on the other hand is indeed good, another well established protection module and the AVC (BB) is quite effective too.

Norton is still an acceptable choice, the cloud and Sonar did it well and of course users should not rely on signatures alone as some companies are relying already on cloud and other secondary components primarily on BB or HIPS.

McAfee is more capable on business scale rather on home usage.
