MT- Don't know if this is your problem, but I've seen this work in the past- someone would try to run a corrupt installation package and it would fail; but the re-installation of a pristine package will also subsequently fail. Seems that VMware was sensitive to things still left on the system from the initial failure, and this stuff needs to be cleaned prior to trying again.

btw, go to the registry entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services" in registry & check for anything related to VMware & delete it.
