New Update CCleaner Updates thread

My point of view, every single app, even is as small and unintrusive as 7-Zip, is an addition to attack surface area; if not irreplaceable by a built-in tool, then installing is a security risk upscaling.

I've been using 7-zip my whole life.
I even set up the executables in the AE list.
Today I asked myself:
“Is it as useful to me as it used to be?”
No.
...so I uninstalled it.

You can try PrivaZer, it is a signed program that is very thorough in cleaning files, and you can disable the “Remnants of Old Files” and “Memory” sections if you don’t need them (which I did).

Personally, I replaced CCleaner with Reg Organizer.

I tried both, but I don't like them.:(
I'm too used to CCleaner.
When I was using XP, I created custom rules to also clean the browser I used and my email client:

CCleaner - MailNews - New Moon

I could try Microsoft PC Manager, I just need to change my language in Geographic Area and then download it from the Microsoft Store.

Has anyone used it and tried it?

If you don't require forensic-level data destruction but prioritize privacy, with the flexibility to create custom rules for cleaning your browser and email client, BleachBit is an excellent choice.

Thanks for the advice.
You know, I'm a dinosaur, stuck in my old ways.:)
I vaguely remember it.
But doesn't it clean obsolete registry keys?

P.S.

I think for now I'll keep CCleaner v.6.39 blocked in the firewall + hosts file.

BleachBit is a bit different by design. It actually stays away from those 'obsolete' or 'broken' keys because, in modern Windows, deleting them doesn't really help speed and can sometimes cause more headaches than they're worth.

Instead, BleachBit treats the Registry like a shredder for your tracks. It only touches the Registry to, wipe your 'most recently used' file lists, clear out your typed URL history, and delete traces of what folders you’ve been looking at.

It’s less about 'repairing' the Registry and more about making sure your private activity isn't sitting there in the logs. Since you like the idea of custom rules, it’s perfect because you can tell it exactly which 'tracks' to target without worrying about it breaking something important.

I try it monthly, but I always uninstall it for the following reasons:
  • It keeps running in the background.
  • This application doesn't offer much more than the default Windows tools; think of it as a central application for all your Windows tools.
  • It needs to use online services to function and runs multiple instances of EdgeWebView when it's running.
Although I appreciate the recent addition of a pop-up blocker that blocks pop-up ads like the ones in BandiZip, it doesn't offer anything more than what CCleaner already provides.

CCleaner 7.05.1241 (26 Feb 2026)
Taking the hassle out of PC maintenance
  • Shutdown after Custom Clean - You can now automatically shut down your PC after a Custom Clean finishes. Find this option in Custom Clean advanced settings.
  • Easier license activation - We've added a Paste button to the license activation screen, so entering your license key is quicker and simpler.

  • Update status confirmation - You'll now see a clear "You're up-to-date" message when you check for updates and your app is already on the latest version.
Simplifying the app
  • Better layout on all screen sizes - The app now adapts more smoothly to different window sizes for a cleaner, more consistent look.
  • Tidier interface throughout - We've polished up a few visual details, including button alignment, menu visibility, scrollbar spacing, and layout consistency across languages.
Fixing bugs
  • Firefox history now cleans properly - Your Firefox browsing history is now fully removed during Health Check and Custom Clean scans.
  • Smoother experience on all Windows devices - We've improved compatibility so that manual updates, scheduled tasks, and Startup Manager work reliably across all supported Windows devices.
  • Scheduled cleans now respect your exclusions - Files and folders you've added to your exclusion list are now properly preserved during scheduled cleans.
  • Software Uninstaller displays results correctly - The Software Uninstaller no longer shows a blank screen after completing a scan, you'll see your results as expected.

Bleachbit comes close to 90% of what I can achieve with CCleaner, but only if you also have winapp2ini installed.
It is possible to compare the missing cleaning paths (although it is rather difficult to analyze them), but in terms of MB there is little difference.
It bothers me that I can't clean the Administrator Account separately from the Standard Account.
Another problem for me is that the uninstaller is not signed.
For now, I'm sticking with CCleaner 6.39.

My issue last month when I gave Bleach Yet another try is (as has happened before) regardless of all changes I made it deleted favicons on Brave, not Firefox just Brave- It does elude me why people still use CCleaner?? I did use CC for years & from the very beginning but IMO HD Cleaner & or Hi-Bit do the job as well if not better without Avast?

I believe that this issue arises because most computer optimizers now use a 1-click optimization approach, assuming that all users will be happy with their selections even though each user has different goals. The end user also has an issue, believing that apps continue to function as they did in the past even though they should read the effects of each step before proceeding with the optimization process.

uhm maybe, but optimizers have had this for decades, so why all the problems NOW with V7.... Don't disagree with you, BUT, the why now question says it must be something else.
