Advice Request CleanBrowsing DNS vs NextDNS vs ControlD DNS

I am still using Simple DNScrypt windows client because its system level DNS blocking not just limited to the browser. Highly customizable.

Last updated 2023 but that does not bother me because its just a GUi for DNSproxy which can be updated manually. If anyone is interested in giving it a try.

Something to note about the speed of DNS servers. Unless the ping is over 100, you shouldn’t notice much. There’s a lot of caching involved with DNS. The bigger issue is which servers they point you to as anycast doesn’t always get you to the most optimal servers. Quad9 regularly sends me to servers on the other side of the country for streaming services which ends up leading to more buffering. The peering servers inside my ISP are very close and fast, but I don’t hit them if I don’t use the ISP DNS. Quad9 is just an example, I actually like their service, but there’s more to routing than just DNS.

I found 1.1.1.1 to be the most reliable regarding this as Cloudflare has servers in pretty much every corner of the world.

Consider switching to AdGuard Home. Easier to setup, automatic filter updating at regular intervals, plenty of options regarding cache and much more.
I used SimpleDNSCrypt in the past so I'm familiar with it but AdGuard Home is better and it's regularly updated. Use it locally on your PC similar to SimpleDNSCrypt.

I use it. Is as fast as all major dns providers. Your location might affect speed as their network is based in Europe, but we are talking ms here.

Blocking capabilities should be similar to nextdns but I never tested is as it is not of my concern.

Currently using Cloudflare Zero Trust on my home router. It's great in blocking NRD's and Parked domains. But for malware and phishing, it's okay. You can report undetected links through security center or radar and they usually resolved it within 24 hours. And they can block Ads too. It just not as aggressive as other DNS though
