Serious Discussion Did Microsoft Defender change the way it responds to file downloads?

What about using a good browser extension to stop malware downloads? Malwarebytes Browser Guard stopped the file https://secure.eicar.org/eicar_com.zip dead cold in Edge and Chrome. I did not test it in Firefox.

What is the "Z:\" location? Is it the partition on the hard disk or a RAM disk?
I am not sure about your screenshot. The Protection history looks the same as on my computer. Can you see such detections after download without opening File Explorer? I can when BAFS works.

Z is my RamDisk.
I didn't open File Explorer. The MD notification came up automatically, but there was a delay.
The GIF should make it easy to understand.
