New features:
- Full scan no longer attempts to scan hard drives that have been excluded from scanning
What's the big leap? How did them suddenly go from 19th to 25th? That's quite a leap.Rather strange naming change. I have not notified any bigger changes so far...
Not F-Secure anymore. Avira. Many changes not released to the public. What's the big leap? How did them suddenly go from 19th to 25th? That's quite a leap.
I meant to say: "F-Secure has made many changes to the product, but not announced all those changes to the public. The jump from 19.X to 25X indicates a massive internal overhaul of the product."Not F-Secure anymore. Avira. Many changes not released to the public.
For now, this is just a guessing game. Avira was part of F-Secure. One of its engines for a few years now.Not F-Secure anymore. Avira. Many changes not released to the public.
Avira is now the complete F-Secure internals. It is visible in the first 19.9 beta where F-Secure developers forgot to "cloak" or "hide" the Avira modules and services. They show in task manager. You can see it in the image posted by another MT member here early in this thread. For now, this is just a guessing game. Avira was part of F-Secure. One of its engines for a few years now.
And the number jump could be an adaptation to the current year!
Some companies have already done that.
I had been using F-Secure for several years, but after hearing about these changes I've purchased an ESET license and made the switch a couple of months ago.Avira is now the complete F-Secure internals. You could be correct on the explanation for 25 for year 2025, but there is no doubt whatsoever about what F-Secure is doing. Just wait. You just wait and see what F-Secure releases as the 25.X version. Half the most useful features and settings are now removed (because those features and settings are not present in Avira).
A lot of dedicated F-Secure users are going to be disappointed. Some will drop the product.
You have got to read the 25.2 release notes....wow, a lot of changes. Thanks for posting the link @Researchspace.Avira is now the complete F-Secure internals. I read them and nothing good. F-Secure is now Avira with a F-Secure "skin."You have got to read the 25.2 release notes....wow, a lot of changes. Thanks for posting the link @Researchspace.

Cannot create allow exceptions for protected folders - which is a problem for someone like me that has a need to do so.
Cannot configure the scan speed - which I want the maximum scan speed. Not the 1 hour low priority scan.
Even the scan report no longer lists missed objects.
I'm certain there is a whole lot more, but as soon as I saw that F-Secure was using all Avira components in the new version, I dropped it. If I wanted Avira, then I would buy Avira.
F-Secure is now nothing more than dumbed-down Avira.
- Updates for Device Protection are now grouped under a single update entry.
No it does not but it is what F-Secure wants, which is to remove logging details so that users cannot audit them or use the logs for troubleshooting.does it help hide when a Capricorn update doesn't happen over the weekend?
Capricorn is basically Avira. Virgo and Hydra F-Secure' s own engines. No it does not but it is what F-Secure wants, which is to remove logging details so that users cannot audit them or use the logs for troubleshooting.
The information that F-Secure removed from the GUI is by no means a burden on the user. But my guess is that F-Secure is following the general trend of "Do not reveal anything to home users because if we do, then they are going to create support tickets."
Capricorn, Virgo, Hydra - I think there were all F-Secure technologies.
It could be that, or more probably since it is all Avira now, the Avira update process does not provide visibility into the various component updates. Same with the Avira scans. They do not have the capability of reporting scan errors and other details.

Are these engines present now? Or over and done with.Capricorn is basically Avira. Virgo and Hydra F-Secure' s own engines.
Hydra: Script based (heuristic) AV engine.
Virgo: Certificate whitelisting engine.
Capricorn: Signature based AV engine.
