Estimated from the screenshots like 43MB+, 300 MB installer is really a huge size installer.

Sorry, I didn't express myself properly - I meant that the F-Secure Scanner Manager can easily hit 50+ MB at times [I had it at 230+ MB during full scan], and it's the most memory intensive of all running processes. Apologies for the ambiguous sentence.

August 25, 2011

New version available

We released new Beta R41 version of our product today! All the existing F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta installations will be automatically upgraded to this R41 version. After the installation, the computer must be rebooted.

The Installer & Release Notes section has also been updated with a new installer as well as up-to-date release notes.

Features introduced in F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta R41:
Mozilla Firefox 6 support
Quarantine can now be opened from Virus and spyware history page
Bug fixes

IMPORTANT NOTE: New installations on Windows XP SP2 are no longer possible with F-Secure Internet Security 2012 releases.

If you have existing F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta installation on Windows XP SP2, it will still get upgraded to this newest version. However, it is no longer supported installation. If you are still running Windows XP SP2, please upgrade to the Service Pack 3.

They have enough issues currently trying to sort out IE and FF :(

The R41 has actually regressed, compared to the previous build.

For me, the 2 showstoppers are:
  • Action Center reports that Computer Security [AV component] is not turned on, although it is.
  • None of the available scans can be launched manually, I haven't tried scheduled scanning.

The Explorer still crashes with Deep Guard's "Use advanced process monitoring" setting enabled, at least they have an idea what may be causing it and will be aiming to have a fix for R42.

Hmm, the next build can't come soon enough.

That's a serious bug,but if they found the source , a fix should follow soon.
Any idea when they are going to release the final version ? F-Secure IS 2011 was released on 15 September 2010 ... And all the previous F-Secure releases always launched their builds in September......

No idea, but looking at the known issues list I don't think it will be mid-Sept. Online Safety [combines the former Parental Control and Browsing Protection modules] especially has quite a few problems...

2 hours ago F-Secure Beta Team sent this email:

F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta Hotfix

Hello,

We are releasing today an important hotfix to all the F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta installations.

The hotfix fixes two problems which are linked together:
- Windows Action Center reports that Computer Security is turned off
- Manual scanning cannot be started

The hotfix will be downloaded and installed automatically. After it has been installed, it will prompt for a reboot. The reboot is mandatory, otherwise the fix is not taken into use.

Yours,
F-Secure Beta Piloting Team

P.S. Converting the F-Secure 2012 BETA Acronis image to VHD and will test it later...

God damn windows security bug seems to be plaguing a few antivirus programs now. From when I spoke to F secure they told me the new version will be released in two to three weeks. Hopefully they improve once again in there next version, 2011 runs very smooth like its not even there

Yes, I'm amazed that despite the plethora of processes it feels almost unnaturally light and provides an outstanding protection out-of-the-box [hardly any options to tweak].

From F-Secure Beta Piloting Team

Hello,

We will release a new beta version (R43) to all the F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta users today, September 20th.

As usual, all the existing installations will receive this F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta R43 release as an automatic upgrade.

Features introduced in F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Beta R43:

* Improved DeepGuard 4 logic, that should result in lot less false positives.
* Improved Application Control with more user friendly settings and DeepGuard 4 integration for server (inbound) applications
* Online Safety main GUI is finalized for IS2012
* Unrated content category is enabled
* The Support Tool now creates its output file to the shared desktop.
* The product checks now for system requirements (Operating System, memory and disk space) before installation and upgrades.
* Bug fixes

We are getting close to the release of this product, so we'd be very interested in hearing your feedback right now. If you encounter any bugs in the product, please report them to us as soon as possible.

Lots of bug fixes, as listed in the Release Notes. Still quite a few issues, mostly in the Online Safety application, which combines 2 former protection modules - Parental Control and Browsing Protection. Worth noting is that Browsing Protection's Exploit Shield has been removed from the BETA. This functionality will be added in later releases.

It's good to read that F-Secure is working on their DeepGuard , it's a really solid layer of protection..... I will install this build in VM to see how it performs.

Features introduced in F-Secure Internet Security 2012 Release Candidate R44:

* Firewall default profile was changed from "Office" mode to "Normal". This new mode is more relaxed for "Home" usage. There should be less problems with games.
* Online Safety for Windows Vista and 7 is shipped with improved Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) functionality. The driver is loaded only if "Web page filter" is turned on.
* Hosts file infections are removed before installation start.
* Bug fixes

seems a good feature at first glance, but what if you manually modify it yourself? your entries will be deleted?

F-Secure Internet Security Technology Preview - new version (TP48) released!

After a few weeks' break to our normal release cycle, we will release a new Internet Security Technology Preview version to all our users today.

In this TP48 release we have fixes to several issues reported by our beta testers. For instance Opera browser users suffered from broken page layouts - this has now been fixed. We also found an issue which many Windows XP users reported: F-Secure Hoster DLL should not hang any more during the shutdown. List of these fixes can be found in the product release notes.

We have also new functionality in this version:

* Online Safety on Windows XP has new LSPv2, which improves stability and browsing experience for all XP users.
* Firefox 8 and Firefox 9 beta support for Online Safety
* New plugin handling for Firefox that improves the stability and browsing experience for all Firefox users.
* When upgrading from PSC9/IS2011 all Computer Security settings are now kept or migrated to suitable ones.
* One process removed (fsgk32st.exe, "F-Secure Gatekeeper Handler Starter") to improve the memory footprint.
* New F-Secure Support Tool that creates normal ZIPs and uses less CPU.

We would be very eager to hear your feedback about this version. Should you encounter any bugs, please create a bug report to us at https://beta.f-secure.com/ and remember to always include the F-Secure Support tool report with it.

This version will again come as an automatic upgrade to all the F-Secure Internet Security Technology Preview users.

You can find the Release Notes and product installer (needed only for new installations) in the Resources section at https://beta.f-secure.com/.

Kind regards,
F-Secure Beta Piloting Team
