I have a new orange icon on the toolbar, and a large black square keeps appearing on the desktop along with error message "the configuration is broken. Reinstall the program." (see screenshot). The black window disappears and then reappears every 30 seconds or so.
Chrome still has adware and popups. Malwarebyte seems to be catching some of it. (I've got a screenshot of this too.)
Thanks for hanging with this, I appreciate it. Laura screenshot postfix2.gif

Yes, Chrome seems altered by malware. I suggest to reinstall it.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Chrome is better after the un/reinstall. My laptop is not. Startup is now slow, screen at startup is showing up in sideways on the Lenovo yoga, and the touchpad didn't work for quite awhile.
Here's the fix log and several screen shots of the errors I'm still getting, along with this rogue orange program. I'm starting to freak out.
