As a US resident and our government's Kaspersky ban, I finally got around to uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security and replacing it with ESET Home Security on our Windows (home) PCs. So since I'm an ESET 'newbie' I have everything running at default settings, and that's the main reason for this thread - I would be most appreciative if you ESET users would share your setting preferences. I would also be interested in learning if any of you run Andy Ful's WHHLight along with ESET.

Welcome to the ESET community! For a newbie, the default settings are quite effective. However, you can always tweak them according to your needs. As for WHHLight, it's compatible with ESET but ensure it doesn't interfere with ESET's operations. Always remember to keep your software updated for the best security.

If as you say, WHHLight is compatible with ESET, then it shouldn't interfere with ESET's operations.
Of course I always keep Windows and my security apps up-to-date.

Absolutely, WHHLight should work fine with ESET. I just mentioned it as a general precaution. It's great to hear that you keep your systems updated. Enjoy your ESET experience!

I'm curious how much will K be affected by the US ban regarding its protection levels, detection etc. Which i think it will have an impact.
Kaspersky is totally unusable now. It ignores ignore and exceptions, it's update is running at 0.10KB or not all. It also locks taskbar and computer overall. It is a junkware. 😓

My advice is to change only these settings:

If you have the Essential (Internet Security) version rather than the Premium (Smart Security Premium) version, I suggest installing CheckMAL's AppCheck in addition, as the base Eset version has weak ransomware protection. AppCheck is a very small utility that will give you an extra layer of protection without putting much load on your system.

If a system has 16gb of ram , quad core , SSD
Then he could even use it with Kaspersky anti ransomware
(Check io performance of encryption , compression etc to make sure it doesn't slow io operations too much id it does try disable eset ransomware protection component so you got only one working anti ransomware)

Eset is anyway implementing a few technologies soon including ransomware remediation tech (rollback )

Your experience is unknown to me, for me the standard Kaspersky works beautifully. But that doesn't mean that others may have a different experience, the configuration between the machines is usually different.

IIRC my ESET Nod32 is default and running with AppGuard and Andy Ful's FWH (firewall hardening tool).

I've developed a basic module that bypasses ESET's self-defense and protection mechanisms. This could compromise system security and make it vulnerable to malicious software... is anybody has some idea how to report that vulnerability.
