Tab Scrolling is another feature. It is still experimental, but available in Chrome Stable and all development editions of the browser. When enabled, it unlocks tab scrolling, which Chrome does not support by default.

Tab Scrolling may have a positive side effect: it limits the minimum width of browser tabs in Chrome. Once configured, tabs in Chrome won't be reduced to blank icons anymore in the extreme case.

Configure Tab Scrolling and a minimum tab width in Chrome

Note: Tab scrolling is an experimental feature. It may be integrated in Chrome natively one day, or it may be removed again by Google.

Here is how you configure the feature:
  1. Load chrome://flags/#scrollable-tabstrip in the browser's address bar.
  2. Activate the status button, reading Default, to display the available options.
  3. Select one of the following values to set a minimum tab width in Chrome:
    • Enabled - tabs shrink to pinned tab width
    • Enabled - tabs shrink to medium width.
    • Enabled - tabs shrink to large width.
    • Enabled - tabs don't shrink.
  4. Restart the browser once you have made the selection.

Google is working to improve Chrome memory and battery consumption on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, and Lacros platforms. The company is readying a performance settings page in Chrome 107 canary with the ability for users to enable memory and battery saver mode and benefit from them.

Chrome may look to achieve this by discarding inactive after the time period chosen by users. As of now, these performance features are in the early stage, and may take a while for you to see them in pre-release and public versions of Chrome.

We will start off with deprecations this time, of which there are three. Persistent quota type is being deprecated in the requestFileSystem() method because it adds unnecessary complexity to the code, which is especially undesirable due to its low usage. HTTP/2 push streams will suffer the same fate as Chrome will no longer receive, store in memory, or use streams sent by this configuration. Similarly, Chrome 106 is also dropping support for non-ASCII characters in cookie domain name attributes, in line with the latest standardization in the RFC 6265bis specification.

In fact, the only information that is provided is that the version of Chrome is updated to 106.0.5249.103 on the Stable and the Extended Stable channel.

Users who click on the "log" link that Google provides may parse the official Chromium changelog to find out more about the updates. The parsing returns confirmation that Google fixed a potential deadlock issue in CacheStorageManager and corrected an issue in AT actions API, which could cause "serious regressions with JAWS".

JAWS, which stands for Job Access With Speech, is a screen reader "developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with the mouse".

It is unclear if the listed issues are the only ones fixed in the new Chrome release. Google does not report security issues that it discovers internally in the release notes or in the Chromium log, to prevent misuse by bad actors. It is possible that the company fixed security issues in Chrome found by internal teams.
