Hi everyone, I think I have a Rootkit unfortunately.

I have a L aptop running Windows 7.

I found the Rootkit on 19th September 2016 - Internet is affected, I can access Google search but clicking on any of the sites returns with a network error - pages just don't load.

I scanned with AVG 2015, it did not scan - and the only thing I could read it was scanning was 'rootkit'. I googled Rootkit on my phone and oh heck... Windows defender quick scan did not pick up anything either. I can't connect to the Internet and cannot download programs such as TDSS killer. I've switched wifi off just in case - I haven't restarted my computer in case it blocks start up. I'm currently running a Windows defender full scan.

I'm a complete newbie at anything tech related and I would be really thankful if someone would be able to walk me through the steps. I have no access to the Internet on anything but my phone at the moment unfortunately. Thank you!

Hello,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
