Advice Request Is it better to have a throwaway email hosted on GMail, or a one time use email?

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.

In my opinion, I think it's best to have a throwaway mail on GMail for simplicity. Want to sign up for a sketchy website, or you need to to download something? Use that email just in case they send you verification stuff, or important things. You could always delete the email later. Also, it's a clean slate and you get to use a simple email manager.
But, for security wise, I would have to say the one-time websites because it's a lot less traceable and no data collection.

What would you perfer to use?

For real life needs i use my main gmail account, for not so needed ( throwaway) account i use my spam email instead

For every game account, ( could aswell be a registered antivirus account) Im always using specific email so its unique and wont be shared anywhere

Proton is useless these days, you can never use it without a sub or phone number, always blocks any incoming email no matter what. It use to be great now, useless.

It's not only Proton but Tuta too has gone down t he same path, always blocks any emails and marks account as spam once you sign up.

Only real way for email aliases is to sign up to a paid sub and create burner aliases that way. Expensive but it's the only way.

I've used Proton email for several years now and don't ever remember it blocking an email as spam, it may have but I don't remember, however, I use the paid version.

Proton is great example of enshittification scam. They started with offering very generous free plan and lured users in. Once they got large enough user base, they started removing more and more features from free plan in order to force users to subscribe to the service.

Any company doing such things immediately goes to my blacklist of companies I will never pay for a service.

My thoughts exactly. If they were honest they would of not limited or cut features with free plans. The more as time goes on the more limited with features it becomes .

Old accounts are fine but try and sign up with a new account with and without a VPN or TOR and you will see how limited Proton has become.

Go on and try with a VPN & TOR and get back to us. You will see I'm right. Paid is fine, but free now is useless.

That's fine, it may be useless to some but not for me.

Don't get me wrong. I understand they are company and they have to earn money somehow. They aren't exactly a Google which owns all of the infrastructure, but giving something for free so they could take the stuff away later is a scummy and shady practice. I'd prefer them saying what their plans are and what could happen to accounts in the future though because I would never sign up from something free temporarily. For a privacy company, they aren't very transparent and that's the most important thing if you want to show people you're different.

Filen.io is very different in their approach. They clearly stated their plans and publish monthly updates how development is going on their blog. They are very open, transparent and honest about the problems they face and write about potential fixes they will implement. For that reason, even though their cloud service isn't on the level of Google Drive yet, I had no problem spending money and buying cloud storage from them.

Not even old accounts; maybe the ones created in their first year, but anything later is still heavily restricted to the point you can't even turn off their signature in mail and you have to delete it manually every time.
