Theres my vmware settings but cant guarantee security
1. keep your vmware or virtualbox up to date
2. disable the shared folder
3. disable network on the vm
4. have a good antivirus on the host
5. keep your host machine up to date
6. disable copy and paste and drag and drop
its best if you download samples with in the vm and then disable network

Good setup, even if I personal wouldn't recommend it for anyone.

2 other basics comes to mind that also helps.

• Use on a dedicated machine, if possible.
• Different OS on the Host.

Yeah... At least a hardened Linux as the host. Then harden the hypervisor and guest. QEMU is my fav. Or VMWare workstation Pro for Linux.

Then again... It's a grand pain in the prosterior to Make a evasion resist VM for malware.
