Greetings, !
My desktop computer, which runs XP, was recently infected with a ransomware-related trojan that disables my desktop by covering it with a white screen.
I ran System Restore; it did not help. I then made, and ran a full scan with, the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, which picked up 8 trojans. I deleted these and rebooted, but the problem is still there.
I tried booting my desktop off an external hard drive that has XP installed on it. This works perfectly, BUT the external HD is now assaulted by the same trojan every few seconds! My AVG (freeware version) identifies the trojan as:
Patched3_c.BLJU
and its associated object as:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcrt4.dll
How can I remove the trojan and its object from my desktop computer's HD, and how can I block the repeated assaults from it? I look forward to your advice!
